🏆🟣 What a season for our Under 12s 🟣🏆

Massive congratulations to our Under 12 boys and girls, who won the Vase Final last week after a brilliant team performance.

Jayden Kane scored the only goal of the game in the final few minutes & what a moment! ⚽💜

After winning the Vase Final, they then went on to finish second in their Midland Schoolboys/girls League division, which is a fantastic achievement. This group has shown great attitude, effort and skill all season. 💪🟣

Full credit to every player — they are an amazing group and they are only going to get better.

A huge thank you to our coaches for all their time and encouragement, to all the parents, families and supporters who helped get them over the line, and to Bradley Kane from Kane’s Barbers for sponsoring the pizzas for the team after the game. 🙌🍕⚽

Match result:

Grange Utd 2 - 0 Peters B

David Dyer ⚽️
Barry 👑 McEntee ⚽️

Grange welcomed Peters B to Raithín on what was a beautiful morning for football, this was our last home game of the season and both teams came with stretch squads.

Grange started the strongest and had plenty of possession and should of put this game to bed early after having 3 one on ones the peters keeper came out on top on each occasion, Shane Boyce broke through and was taking down inside the box which resulted in a peno being giving and Dyer dispatched it with ease, peters came back fighting and had their chances, their number 9 broke through and was in a foot race with Eddie Myers who used his strength giving a fair shoulder in everyone eyes a part from the ref who deemed it to be a red card to the shock of everyone on the pitch and everyone watching.

That wasn’t the end of the drama as the game was levelled up shortly after this when a peters player took Paul Reid down being the last man and he knew his faith given what he seen giving early and was giving his marching orders, 1-0 Grange HT.

The second half seen both teams have their spells and changes where needed, with Grange only having one sub but what a sub it was, player manager Barry McEntee felt this game needed his pace and power up top and subbed himself on for the tried Stevie Myers who wasn’t offering much up there, Barry impact was clear to see very quickly with his slickly touch and calmness on the ball we started to move the ball around better and it wasn’t long until he produced the goods, picking the ball up on the half way line he weaved in and out of the peters players at pace and hit a thunder bolt into the top corner from 30 yards out giving the peters keeper no chance.

Unfortunately we only got the celebration and some will try and say it was a tap in from 5 yards out but they would be lien and they shouldn’t be believed.

Man of the match: while goals wins games we could have easily went with the main man himself, but young Tomas Nevin on his first senior start was brilliant from start to finish and gets the nod.

Dennis Delaney Division 2 Cup 1st round:

Grange United 4 - 2 Monksland B AET

Paul Reid ⚽️⚽️⚽️
Shane Boyce ⚽️

Grange welcomed Monksland B in the first round of the division 2 cup which was a lovely morning for football in Raithín, Monksland started on the front foot and capitalised on a defensive error making it 1-0, Grange lost Frank Kavanagh to injury in the earlier stages which was a big loss, Grange got back into the game when Bisto swung in a corner and his younger brother was there like he has been all season to head it home, it wasn’t long until Monksland got back in front when the Grange defence stopped calling a clear offside but as we know you always play the refs whistle and we payed the price when it never came and Monksland slotted in it for a 2-1 lead, there wasn’t long left until half time and there was some big tackles been put in from Shane Boyce and Dean Kavanagh who both had a super game along which the rest of the team, Bisto was creating a lot of chances for Junior and Paul up top and when Paul got fouled just outside the box he was the calmest man on the field and told everyone else to walk away and he curled a well hit free inside the post to make it 2-2 at half time.

Grange came out fast in the second half and created a lot of chances but one of the stand out performance was coming from the Monksland keeper as he made some great saved on multiple occasions to keep his team in it, neither team could find the winner and onto extra time we went.

The first half of extra time seen Grange pin Monksland back and once again Granges top scorer this season was on hand to give us a deserving 3-2 lead and we saw that into half time of extra time, Monksland had a great chance to go 3-3 but thankfully for John Joe Myers in goals he pulled off a wonderful save to keep it out, the game was put to bed when Bobbie Archbold who played out of his skin put Shane Boyce in and broke through the Monksland defence and chipped the keeper to wrap the game up 4-2.

All lads coming off the bench had a big impact:

Lee Kelly
Eddie Myers
Calem Crichton
Louis McCullagh
David Nevin

Man of the Match: hard to pick today with Dean Kavanagh having a huge performance, Paul got the goals as usually, but we sided with Shane Boyce who set the energy for Grange today and was first to everything along with getting his goal.

Match result:

Moate Celtic 3 - 8 Grange United

William O’Reilly ⚽️⚽️
David Dyer ⚽️⚽️
Louis McCullagh ⚽️⚽️
Davie Nevin ⚽️
David Markey ⚽️

Grange travelled to Moate on a very cold evening that saw us dominate from start to finish, Grange took an early lead through William O’Reilly in the second minute and never looked back, William and Dyer added another 2 before half time which saw us lead 3-1 at half time.

Grange came out for the second half in the same form adding 4 and 5 through David Markey and a super goal from Dyer lobbing the keeper from 35 yards out, Davie Nevin got the goal of the game when the went on a solo run and lobbed the Moate keeper again from 40 yards out, Louis came on and scored twice to wrap up a game filled with goals.

Man of the match: there was a lot of good performance tonight but none better than Bisto who control the game in the middle of the park and ended the game with 5 assists.

Grange 2 - 1 Mullingar Athletic B

Paul Reid ⚽️⚽️

Grange faced Mullingar Athletic B for the second time this season and there is nothing like a local derby to get this team fired up, while Grange have struggled for wins this season we have put in our best performance out in Gainstowns and came away with our second win this season over our rivals.

Thanks to Mullingar Athletic for hosting the game they are always supportive when it comes to the use of their facilities and without them this game wouldn’t have went ahead this weekend.

Grange started strongest and where on the front foot straightaway, forwards Junior and Paul where getting great service from Bobby and William on the wings who both played well and created a lot for us, Grange took an early lead when a William O’Reilly corner found Paul Reid unmarked and there was only going to be one result as the Grange talisman headed into the bottom corner 1-0, the chances kept coming and Paul was gifted a goal scoring opportunity a few yards and very unlike him but the opportunity went over the bar. Half time 1-0

Eddie replaced Lee in the back line at halftime due to been on a yellow, our defence had been rock solid with Pat, Lee, Davie having a fantastic game, Grange started the second half a lot like the first and it wasn’t long until we where 2-0 up when Junior got a ball down the right wing whipped in a brilliant cross to find Paul who hit it first time and found the back of the net, Grange where dominating the middle of the park as Dean Kavanagh, David Dyer and Jamie Archbald where battling for everything and kept control, Grange should of put the game to bed having multiple chances but when you don’t take your chances you run the risk of letting your opponent back into the game and in the dying moments that’s what happened when Athletic who where battling hard got a goal to make it 2-1 and make the game very tense for the last few minutes, Grange held out to take the win and will be looking to use this as a springboard to get further up the table.

Man of the match: there was multiple players who deserved this but Pat Donughe stood out with a strong display at the back.
