It was this association that elicited complaints from the public and forced Mullingar’s first pole dance teacher to move venue just before her classes were about to open.

Yesterday, an article about my studio was published in the paper, and seeing it there has made me stop and think about just how much has happened to get to this point.

When I first announced that I was opening a pole studio in Mullingar, I honestly didn't expect the amount of criticism, assumptions and obstacles that would follow. My original premises fell through because of complaints before I had even opened my doors, and I suddenly found myself having to start all over again.

There are still people who see the words “pole dancing” and immediately make assumptions about what it is, who it is for, and what kind of person teaches it.

But they don't see what I see when I walk into my studio.

They see a pole.

I see strength, movement, flexibility, confidence, determination, laughter, friendship and people discovering that their bodies are capable of far more than they thought.

And for me personally, this studio represents something much bigger than a business.

The last few years of my life have been incredibly difficult. I've been rebuilding myself after leaving a violent relationship in 2021, and I've also had to face the reopening of a historical sexual abuse case from my childhood.

There have been times when life has felt unbelievably heavy.

But somewhere along the way I made a decision: I don't want the things that happened to me to decide what the rest of my life looks like.

I want to build a happy life.

I want to create something positive.

I want to surround myself with good people.

I want to keep learning, keep moving, keep growing and create a space where other people can do exactly the same.

So when the first studio fell through, I was devastated , but I wasn't going to give up.

I found another space.

I kept going.

And now, tonight, I have just finished teaching another class.

Two sisters came in, and they're learning more and more every single class. Watching them progress is exactly why I do this.

And tonight they told me I'm a really good teacher.

That might sound like a small thing, but honestly, it meant the world to me. ❤️

Because behind this studio is a woman who has had to rebuild her life more than once.

And every person who has walked through those doors, booked a class, encouraged me, shared my posts, defended what I'm doing, or simply said “keep going” has been part of that journey.

To my students and to the people of Mullingar my friends, my peers , my daughters who have supported me , thank you.

You may never fully understand how much your support has meant to me.

I started this because I wanted to create something that brings people together, makes them stronger, gives them confidence and most importantly, gives them a place to have fun and be themselves.

And that's exactly what I'm going to keep doing.

The criticism was never going to be the end of my story.
