Civil Defence is a volunteer based humanitarian organisation dedicated to assisting the community

Civil Defence was established by the Government in 1950 under the Air Raid Precautions Acts of 1939 and 1946 and the Civil Defence Act of 2002

Training programmes include:

* First Aid
* Rescue skills
* Radio Communications
* Map Reading skills
* Fire-fighting skills
* Welfare and catering
* Radiological monitoring and sampling
* Search skills
* Water search using boats and kayaks

What a massive weekend for Civil Defence volunteers at the Luke Combs concert in Slane castle providing Ambulance and medical cover alongside volunteers from Order of Malta and St. John ambulance on the concert site, Ambulance and medical cover in Slane village, Slane bridge and the parking areas around the village, water safety on the river Boyne alongside the Coastguard and the Garda water unit, Command & Control in conjunction with the event management team and Logistics team supporting all of our operations. Our Welfare team were the stars of the weekend providing meals throughout both days for all of the medical teams and volunteers. We had great support from our neighbouring Civil Defence counties and volunteers from many counties accross the country. Thank you to all volunteers who helped to make our operational roles successful and safe

Congratulations to volunteers Derek Dunne and Cianan Gallagher who received their 40yr and 30yr service medals respectively today from Minister Thomas Byrne at a national awards ceremony in McKee Barracks, Dublin.

Yesterday was a busy day for our volunteers with medical cover provided at the Navan Mid-summer market, the Navan Pride parade and the annual Dunshaughlin 10k road race. Thank you to all the volunteers who made themselves available for these duties. We followed up last night with our fundraiser event in aid of SOSAD, more to follow on that later
