Thinking about staying on in Pony Club & progressing through Tests??
We asked some of our members who have taken the higher tests to share why they chose to continue their Pony Club journey.
Tara Dixon shares her experience completing her AH Theory and A Riding Tests at 18—and why the knowledge she gained has been so valuable.
Her message is a great reminder that the higher tests aren't just about passing an exam. They're about developing the knowledge, skills and confidence to give our horses the best possible care throughout their lives.
👇 Have a read of Tara's experience — and if you're considering working towards your B+, AH or A, maybe this will give you the encouragement to take that next step!
Your Pony Club journey doesn't have to end as you get older. There is always another challenge, another skill to learn and another reason to stay. 💚

🐴 Tara Dixon | AH & A Tests🐴

"I stayed on in the Pony Club to complete my AH Theory and A Riding Tests when I was 18.
I did so because I take pride in the level of care and knowledge involved in horse health, fitness and education.
The Pony Club is there to support and educate the next generation — whether that’s developing training skills or learning how to respond in an emergency that could potentially save a horse’s life.
Our horses mean a huge amount to us and fill our hearts every day, so I wanted to gain as much knowledge as possible to protect them, care for them and train them to the best of my ability.
Yes, there is a theory side to the AH, but in reality you need that knowledge in order to act and react in the correct way. It teaches you to recognise things that others might not notice and gives you a much deeper understanding of your horse.
I believe these courses set you up brilliantly for a life with horses — whether that’s professionally or simply as a hobby. Their lives are in our hands, so educate yourself to give them the best care possible.
And, as an added bonus, completing these tests can help you progress through your BHS qualifications. You can potentially skip stages and go straight into BHS Stage 5 Care, Ride & Lunge, as well as Stage 4 Management.
I know the higher tests won’t appeal to everyone, but for those of you with a deeper passion for horses, they are a fantastic challenge — and a really worthwhile achievement"

So if you’re thinking about staying on in Pony Club… why not go for it? 🐴

Pony Clubbers at Hunt Rides and Gatherings this Winter
Many of you will be lucky enough to be invited out on hunt rides or hunts this autumn and winter. Here are a few guidelines.
Please dress appropriately. You don't need brand-new kit, but make sure you are clean and smart for the day out, and check the girth before moving off!

🐾
🐶 HUNT ETIQUETTE 🐶
A few general points on hunt etiquette. These aren’t just traditional rules; they’re about being considerate and showing respect for each other, our hunt staff, landowners, hosts, and the general public.
🐶 BEFORE THE MEET 🐶
🐾 Be punctual - double-check the start time and remember that is the time you should be on and ready to move off. Please allow plenty of time to arrive, tack up, and get on. Ensure you or a supporter pays the hunt cap if needed; you will probably need cash.
🐾 Please follow the specific parking instructions to the letter; usually you will be given a What3Words address, so you will need to download the What3Words app.
🐶 WHILST HUNTING 🐶
🐾 Hounds always have the right of way! Turn your horse’s head towards passing hounds to avoid kicks. Call “Hound, please” to alert others.
🐾 Always give hunt staff the right of way.
🐾 Be polite and friendly to passers-by. Thank motorists who slow down and anyone who opens gates or helps the hunt. You ARE the hunt, so make sure you're making a good impression.
🐾 Respect our landowners: stick to field margins to ensure you never ride on crops and give livestock plenty of room. Move quietly and slowly through farmyards and near animals.
🐾 Leave gates as you find them unless instructed otherwise. If a gate needs closing, call “Gate please” and ensure the message reaches the back of the field.
🐾 Respect private property. Never ride across lawns, gardens or private areas without permission.
🐶 FOOT & CAR FOLLOWERS 🐶
🐾 Park only where permitted. Never assume field entrances or private drives are available. Keep roads, gateways and farm entrances clear.
🐾 Only walk or drive where you have specific permission. Respect our landowners’ property and remember that our bloodhounds hunt the natural scent of human runners, so people and vehicles crossing the route can confuse them.
🫕 HUNT SUPPER
You may be offered food and hot drinks after the hunt ride; please remember to thank the hosts

☺️ Remember, a little courtesy and consideration go a long way towards maintaining good relationships with our landowners and the public. ☺️

Huge well done to ALL our amazing intrepid and brave kids who sailed across the sea to attack the biggest 105 track I have ever seen.
Well done to the IPC kids as well. We may have left the Cups in the UK but we have learnt so much and had a fantastic week in Osberton International Horse Trials brilliantly run and organised by the team. Thank you to everyone who was involved at British Eventing Official and from The Pony Club especially Patrick Campbell the chair of eventing.

Safe home everyone 🚛🚚
