Had the privilege of being invited to South East Technological University Carlow Sports Complex to give some tips and tricks to the young archers there, on barebow. Covered quite a bit on string & face walking, different bow set-ups for indoor / outdoor and target / field, arrows, tabs, competition formats, and a lot more more besides. Even drifted a bit into trad and longbow. Anyway, very attentive bunch and a pleasure to help out.

Some of us made it to Mayo Archery Club for their October shoot this weekend. 60 targets no less. Thoroughly enjoyed the day in this beautiful part of the country. Mayo Archery Club are great hosts, and the emphasis is most definitely on ensuring archers enjoy themselves.
Won another panda 😁.

That concludes our 4 week beginners course. This week was about the different bowstyles of the IFAA, their use, limitations, rule compliance, and set-up.
Well done to everyone who took part and helped make this such an enjoyable experience.
Again a huge thanks too to our own members for their help and bringing their gear along for our little show-n-tell.
Looking forward now to getting this lot signed up and exploring their potential.

3rd week done of our beginners course. This week was about different tools and their use in bow tuning, arrow making, string making, and a lot more besides. Nearly got carried away on this one because it's a favourite. Just about made time for the usual basics on safety, warm-ups, and shooting of course.
Thanks to our club members for their assistance and sharing their experience.

Week 2 done of our beginners course. Thanks to both our members and trainees for a very enjoyable session. Amongst the H&S basics and shot-cycle, this week was a focus on preparation for a field shoot and competition etiquette. Next week will be tools and their use, and the week after will be bowstyles. Lots of arrows too 😁🏹🏹.

Massive thank-you to our own club coaches for the work they put in. To be fair though, a big thank-you to our non-coach members too for since the early days of our little club, we couldn't have done it without their help and support. Some of us might be coaches but we've a learned a lot from each other in the promotion of archery in our own little corner.
Looking forward to week two of our beginners course tomorrow 😁🏹🏹.

Big thanks to Aos Dana Archers for preparing some very challenging courses for the 2026 Irish Field Archery Federation - IFAF Bowhunter Championships. Well done to your crew too for a very smooth operation.
Proud of our little club for the training and work they put into preparing for this, and well done whether you made the podium or not. One thing is very clear from this weekend though, attendances and archery skills are on the rise.

Looking forward now to our next beginners course. Busy few weeks ahead.
