The ball is kicked by a Team A player and is going towards a Team B player when it deflects off the referee and leaves the field of play by the touchline without touching any other player.

What is the correct decision?

This includes during general play,
●Law 12 unsporting behaviour - verbally district an opponent during play or at a restart.

● Simply saying “leave it” is not automatically an offense.

●If the player is communicating with a teammate (e.g., “leave it to me”), that’s considered normal football communication and is allowed

●BUT if the shout is used to verbally distract or deceive an opponent (unsporting behaviour), then the referee should:

-Stop play (if necessary).

-Award an indirect free kick to the opposing team from where the offense happened.

-Show a yellow card for unsporting behaviour.

Key factor is the intention

✅ Allowed → “Leave it!” to a teammate.

❌ Not allowed → “Leave it!” shouted to trick an opponent.

🔑 Key referee tip: Ask yourself → “Was the shout clearly meant for a teammate, or was it intended to deceive the opponent?” That’s your line between a talking to and a yellow card.

While taking a penalty kick, a player kicks the ball with their right foot in such a way that the ball clearly moves, accidentally touches the player’s left foot and then goes into the goal. What is the correct decision?

There is no disciplinary sanction if a goalkeeper controls the ball with their hand(s)/arm(s) for more than eight seconds, unless the offence is committed repeatedly.

The recommended action is as follows:
➡ first offence – corner kick only
➡ second offence – corner kick and warning
➡ third offence – corner kick and caution (yellow card, YC) for ‘persistent offences’; if this is their second YC during a match, the goalkeeper is sent off (red card)
