Duck Rate is the average number of match after which the batsman gets out on a duck. Lower the duck rate, the worse it is.

We analyzed the top spin all-rounders based on the duck rate in ODIs. Daniel Vettori performs the worse as he got out on duck after every 11 matches, closely followed by Shahid Afridi. He got out on a duck after every 12 matches on average. Shakib Al Hasan is the best performer amongst the three.

So, contrary to the popular opinion - "No", Shahid Afridi is not the "King of Duck"

- KKR's senior most players, DK & Morgan's average contribution to the team's total is the lowest amongst all batsmen

- DK & Morgan batting in the lower order does not instill confidence and makes the young top order batsmen vulnerable to pressure situations

Either Dinesh Karthik or Eoin Morgan needs to play at the top in order to improve KKR's chances of qualifying for the play-offs.

We analyzed MS Dhoni's batting performance of IPL: 2008 & IPL: 2020 on three parameters, batting average, batting strength and consistency.

Dhoni's batting average has almost halved since he played IPL for the first time. He also faced less number of balls per match (read batting strength) in the last IPL (2020) than in the first IPL (2008). The most interesting insight is that in IPL 2020, he was very consistent with his declined performance.

The fact that Dhoni's batting strength has reduced substantially gives an indication that he is not as confident with his batting as he was in the early years of IPL. And rightly so, with a physically intensive game like cricket, with the increase in age one is bound to feel the same.

So, what keeps "Thala" going? Maybe his cricketing brain, maybe his brand. But "Definitely Not" his batting abilities!

Was Mohammad Kaif an underperformer?

The three young batsmen inducted in Sourav Ganguly's team were Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif.

We did a consecutive match to match performance analysis of these three batsmen. The analysis is based on the rolling batting average.

Virender Sehwag has come at the top of the analysis by maintaining the batting average of 30 through out. It is interesting to note that both Yuvraj Singh and Mohd. Kaif had very similar batting average.

When Mohd. Kaif was dropped from the Indian Cricket Team after playing 125 matches, he was averaging at 25.03 runs per match where as Yuvraj Singh was averaging at 27.54 runs per match.

The key reason for dropping Mohd. Kaif could have been the rapidly changing style of the game. With T20s becoming the part of the mainstream, aggressive batsmen with high strike rate were preferred over the defensive ones.

The average of both Virat Kohli and Babar Azam is almost same. Virat averages at 49.67 and Babar averages at 48.82.

However, Babar Azam's standard deviation is lower than Virat Kohli, which essentially means that "Babar is more consistent than Virat"!

It must be noted that Virat has played 254 matches whereas Babar has played 80 matches.
