Rahul Dravid appointed India head coach
November 03 2021 by Cricbuzz Staff
Dravid will take charge from the home series against New Zealand after the T20 WC
Rahul Dravid has been appointed the head coach of the Indian cricket team. He will take over from Ravi Shastri, whose tenure will come to an end after the ongoing Men's T20 WC 2021. Dravid will take charge of the senior side from the home series against New Zealand, that starts with the T20Is on November 17. The series involves three T20Is and two Tests.
The appointment of the former India captain made by BCCI's Cricket Advisory Committee, comprising Sulakshana Naik and RP Singh, was "unanimous" said a media release from BCCI. There was no mention of other applicants, if any.
"The BCCI welcomes Rahul Dravid as the Head Coach of India's senior men team. Rahul has had an illustrious playing career and is one of the greats of the game. He has also served Indian cricket as Head of National Cricket Academy (NCA) with distinction," BCCI president and Dravid's former teammate, Sourav Ganguly said.
"Rahul's effort at the NCA has nurtured several young cricketing talents who have gone on to represent the country at the international stage. I am hopeful that his new stint will take Indian cricket to new heights."
Dravid previously coached the India Under-19 side at the 2016 and the 2018 World Cup, where they finished runners-up and champions respectively. Dravid has also overseen the progress of the India A sides until 2019, when he was appointed the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. He was also the coach recently when a Shikhar Dhawan-led Indian team toured Sri Lanka earlier this year.
"It is an absolute honour to be appointed as the new Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team and I am really looking forward to this role. Under Mr Shastri, the team has done very well, and I hope to work with the team to take this forward," Dravid said on the appointment.

Patel was Test cricket's youngest wicket-keeper when he made his debut in England in 2002 and continued to have a stop-start journey at the international level. With the emergence of other MS Dhoni, Patel continued to remain in the back-up options for India. However, he also had a flourishing domestic career scoring over 11,000 First Class runs in 194 games. He also had the honour of leading Gujarat to the maiden Ranji Trophy win in the 2016-17 season as well as well as their maiden Vijay Hazare Trophy win.
In addition, Patel was also a part of six different teams in the Indian Premier League where he managed 13 fifties over 139 games.

BCCI receives government permission to conduct IPL 2020 in UAE
August 10 2020 by Kaushik Rangarajan
The BCCI has received official permission from the Government of India to conduct IPL 2020 in the UAE, tournament chairman Brijesh Patel confirmed to Cricbuzz. The franchises, who had been waiting for the official government go-ahead until Monday morning, will shortly meet with the BCCI office bearers where the board will discuss the Standard Operating Procedures as well as address any concerns franchises have before jetting off to UAE around August 21.
The green-lighting from the various wings of the central government - including the Ministry of Home and External Affairs - is a shot in the arm for the board, which is faced with several logistical and administrative hurdles to move the tournament out of India amidst the Coronavirus pandemic.
Among BCCI's 11th hour concerns is finding a replacement title sponsor after Vivo invoked the Force Majeure clause in their contract to withdraw from this season. Patel confirmed that the board had floated an Expression of Interest (EOI) and expressed optimism of finding a suitable replacement sponsor for this season.
It remains to be seen, however, if the new sponsor or a consortium of sponsors can match Vivo's valuation of INR 440 crores per season. Fifty percent of this winning-bid value will be split eight ways among the franchises as per the revised revenue sharing agreement.
"There is a lot of interest (in acquiring the IPL title rights), so let's see what we get," Patel told Cricbuzz.
Franchises expediting planning
The government's go-ahead has expedited the teams' decision making with regards to logistics. When contacted, franchises confirmed to Cricbuzz that they had already set in motion processes to secure UAE visas for their players and were finalising accommodation details - in line with the draft SOP - in the UAE as well. Chennai Super Kings confirmed that they were planning to assemble their Indian players

Cricket Australia postpone T20I series against West Indies
August 04 2020 by Cricbuzz Staf
The three-match series in early October was to serve as a tune-up before the now-rescheduled T20 WC.
Cricket Australia has indefinitely postponed the proposed three-match T20I series against West Indies scheduled for the first week of October. The decision was communicated on Tuesday morning following discussions between the two boards.
The three-match series, with games at Townsville, Cairns and the Gold Coast on October 4, 6 and 9 respectively, was to serve as a tune-up before the T20 WC. But with the ICC rescheduling that marquee event to 2021 because of the Coronavirus pandemic, there was little to gain from a three-match series which brings with it significant logistic overheads.
The cancellation of the West Indies T20Is delays the international debut of the Bill Pippen Oval in Gold Coast. The Cazaly's Stadium in Cairns too will have to wait a while before getting to host an international game. It last played host to a Australia vs Sri Lanka Test, 16 years ago.
Incidentally, India have been pencilled in to play three T20Is - October 11, 14 and 17 - as well, an assignment that is now unlikely to go ahead following BCCI's reworked IPL schedule in the September-November window. It is highly likely that the T20Is against Indiamight be accommodated following the Test and ODI leg of their visit in December-January.
