I am reinventing my career at 29!

It's not easy. Daily I make a ton of mistakes...

I am trying to detach from mistakes!

Reinventing a career is the most difficult thing that I have done in my life.

And I have a ton of doubts. Daily!

For the first time, I understood what it means to procrastinate and have self-doubts!

What if I fail?
What if I have to go back to a corporate job?
What if everyone laughs at me?
What if I run out of my savings?
How do I compete with my batchmates?
What if this is not yet the right path?

I am weighed down by a mountain of doubts.

And most people ask me -

How did you find your passion?
How did you find your motivation?

And in reflection, I say this...

The first thing that ran away was motivation. Lol
Motivation is a false state of confidence.

The journey has been filled with sacrifices!

A more than MBA paycheck
Online Shopping spree
Going out to eat at new places
Letting go of anyone or anything that disturbed my peace of mind

But one thing is constant!

It's your daily routine.
They will be always there with you.
Your routines define who you are.

If you want reinvention, motivation isn't where you start.

You need a routine.

I have made one for now.
And I am executing it.
Right now.

Is it working? Yes!

Am I learning? Yes!

What's important for career reinvention?
What do you think?

And I am looking for 7 working professionals, who want to switch to a new job and get at least a 40% hike!

When I initially changed jobs, I looked out for offer letters from any company!

And each time I was turned down, I felt depressed and worthless.

But I was doing nothing to acquire the correct skills to land my ideal job.

My emotional state became dependent on whether or not I had any offers.

Strangely enough, I constantly attribute my sadness to a lack of possessions.

Do you do that too?

Btw, three months later, I had three offers for analytics positions in my dream job roles.

Soon, I began to project the confidence of the man who had three offer letters, leaving behind the days of low emotional states when I was rejected.

I'm currently laughing as I study this pattern.

Every wise person, every spiritual book, even the so-called self-help book full of linguistic f***s, says the same thing.

"Having something makes you happy while lacking it makes you miserable"

Yesterday, I was listening to a Geeta slokh, which stated that "Animals are sad when they don't have food, and they become joyful as soon as they do"

How do we differ from animals then?

Sigmund Freud said, "Unconsciously, our behaviors are motivated by our primal needs."

So what exactly is this life game?

And how do you move around it?

Life is simple, yet not easy.

We are all striving to be something in life.

And that something is what motivates us to act.

Any actions that gives us something, give us the impression that we have become that person.

This is how we have been unconsciously trained to think.

Have, Do, and Be

Consider instead

Be, Do, Have

Letting go off the result and intentionally becoming the man we've always wanted to be as we go through life.

The next time you are rejected by your dream company.

Keep in mind that being is more important than possessing.

It's not that you've been turned down.

Instead, your skills were dismissed.

And I am looking for 3 working professionals, who want to switch to a new job and get at least a 40% hike!

I know how hard it is to find time to apply for jobs consistently and to prepare for interviews.

How to identify red flags?

Whether you intend to start dating, enter a relationship, or get hitched.

Red flags are important to understand.

For instance, gaslighting, lying, or victim mentality.

Similarly, how can you recognize warning signs before joining a new company?

Networking with former employees of that company would be one easy solution.

You can inquire as to the reasons for their resignation from the company.

The answer is typically either the company's work culture, a lack of learning opportunities, low compensation, or a personal life circumstance.

Checking the company out on Glassdoor is another option.

Working professionals assess their employers on Glassdoor.

This is another proxy dataset to look for warning signs regarding the company.

In my instance, I can still clearly recall why I quit each of my companies.

For instance, the growth trajectory of my first company was uninspiring.

I left the second firm because it switched from a B2C to a B2B model, and since I was in an analytics position, analytics didn't make much sense in the B2B context.

The next company I changed was because they had to close due to COVID; otherwise, I had no intention of leaving.

The last company I worked for was Walmart, which I left because I wanted to set up a business and had nothing to do with the organization.

Have you joined a new company recently?

How did you take your decision to join the company?

And I am looking for 3 working professionals, who want to switch to a new job and get at least a 40% hike!

This student got a hike of ~200%

He was from Tech Mahindra in the last 3 years working as a systems analyst

And he was from a tier-3 college

He wanted a job in analytics, where he could create an impact and solve real-world problems through data

In 6 months this student:

-Got 5 offers from a range of 6LPA to 13LPA
-Upgraded his tech skills
-Worked on his limiting beliefs of being from a tier-3 college
-Got over his shyness to ask for the hike he wanted

That's crazy!

So here's how he managed to get a ~200% hike!

The first offer he got was from a startup with 6LPA CTC

The moment he got that offer, he got so excited that he almost said yes

Because of his limiting beliefs he thought, 6LPA was the best he deserved

With a bit of assurance, he saw that limiting belief and declined that offer

Next, he got another offer, where he used a previous offer of 6LPA expressing that how this offer didn't meet his expectations, and got an offer of 7.5LPA CTC

His excitement was out of the roof

But this company lacked any managerial experience in analytics to mentor him on the analytics implementation

So again he declined that offer

The next offer that came in was of 9LPA

By this time there was no stopping this guy

Because he had already made the sacrifices required to overcome the limiting beliefs of settling for less than what he deserved

Within a week, 2 more offers rolled in using the same process of 10.5LPA and 13LPA respectively

Btw 13LPA also included a joining bonus of 2Lacs i.e. an offer of 15LPA. That too from a leading startup of India

Dreams do come true

So can they come true for you?

And I am looking for 3 working professionals, who want to switch to a new job and get at least a 40% hike!

How do some people get 100-200% hike on job switch when most of the employers are not willing to give more than 30-50% hike?

Let's say I had two clients, A, and B.

By the way, I'm a career coach who helps working professionals get at least a 40% raise in their next job change.

So A worked as a systems analyst for an IT company and earned a 3.5LPA.

And B worked as a software developer for an IT company, earning 33LPA.

Both have received multiple offers in the last three months.

A received five offers totaling 6LPA, 7.5LPA, 9LPA, 10.5LPA, and 13LPA.

B received three offers of 46LPA, 48LPA, and 52LPA.

So A received a hike of 188% and a hike of 57%.

Do you understand the distinction?

Talking about 100% and 50% hikes is very situational.

When you hear about such hikes, look into the specifics, such as the base package.

P.S. A and B joined companies that provided 10.5LPA and 46LPA, respectively. Furthermore, you are not required to join the company with the highest salary. There are more factors to take such decisions.

You can connect with me on DM to discuss the logic behind selecting the best offer.

And for this discussion, a basic expectation of a 40% hike is the industry standard.

This is the most controversial thing when it comes to CV writing!

This has already split the internet!

So, a few years back, I was interviewing with Black Rock.

The interviewer asked me who I thought would become King of the Seven Kingdoms in Game of Thrones.

It's strange to be questioned about Game of Thrones in a data analytics interview.

And that is how my interview began, or more accurately, it was a conversation from the start.

Rather than beginning an interview from scratch.

"Hey, tell me about yourself, or what you've done, or tell me about this....."

It seemed we both had something in common to share ideas on.

But how did the interviewer know I was a Game of Thrones fan?

Well, I have something called personal interests in my CV.

This tells the interviewer that I do things outside of work and am not simply a person who comes to work for 9 hours and then does nothing in my personal life!

I want to be perceived as someone who can add value to the company culture via his interests and hobbies.

As a result, more diverse teams with enthusiastic individuals are formed.

So, even before I join, I intend to provide value to the company.

In my opinion, your CV should be tailored not just for HR or technical interviews, but also for CEOs, Founders, department heads, and managers, who are significantly more experienced and value work-life balance, individual identity, and support self-care.

Because maintaining hobbies beyond the office is a sign of strong mental health, which will reflect in your work, and vice versa.

And what are your thoughts on including this section in your CV?

Swiggy wants me back!

Should I go back after going through all this?

Curious. Good!

Because this impacts you the most and will change your life.

Back in 2019, I used to order every night, past 12, from Swiggy.

Working for 12-13 hours daily in one of the cut throat rapidly growing hospitality industry with competitors like OYO rooms.

At FabHotels, I was into marketing performance analytics and revenue analytics.

My mind used to be exhausted from daily number crunching and all I wanted at the end of the day was peace, happiness and feeling fulfilled.

Tired of overthinking at 12 at night when nothing else was left to do, I used to start binge watching and ordered food online.

After working 12-13 hours daily, I thought I deserved that pizza from Domino's with extra cheese which costed my pocket ~600/- every night.

Such binge marathons went daily for this entire 2019.

Ending up wasting 3-4 hours daily consuming pointless content and spending 600/- on unhealthy foods.

Left my body on the verge of being clinically obese and financially broken by end of every month.

And I knew that a good sleep will recharge my mind and body but I just couldn't just stop overthinking on my broken life.

Why broken because I was spending ~15k/month on junk food which I could have invested into traveling, a new phone, clothes, books or atleast invested them.

And my spending habits were so bad, that I wouldn't buy a Netflix subscription for 199/- where I would get meaningful content rather spent hours binging free and pointless content on YouTube.

I was just too zoomed-in into my stories trying to find answers of how to feel happy and fulfilled because of which I just couldn't sleep.

But the wake up call came. April 2020. I lost my job, I had a break up, my dad lost his rental business and I was struggling with health problems.

No one was there to guide me, like I was lost in a forest, trying to survive.

For the same reason, 2 years back, overcoming my problems I started habit coaching, because no one was there to guide me how to reach to your goals and how to feel happy and fulfilled in life.
