We express our heartfelt condolences on the sad demise of Sh. Surjeet Singh Guleria, IG BSF (Retd), Bengal, who left for his heavenly abode on 26th January 2026.
He was a strong supporter of Sea Explorers' Institute, which he also associated with as an honourable member and contributor to the Flood Rescue Committee under NDMA. In the early years, when late Shri Pranab Mukherjee ( former President of India ) was serving as Defence Minister, Sea Explorers' Institute emerged as a pioneering institution providing Life Saving and Salvage training across India, with his valued guidance and encouragement.
He also played a significant role in strengthening disaster management capacity, including support to surface and underwater diving training for NDRF personnel. His contributions to national service and disaster preparedness will always be remembered with deep respect.
During his career he contributed significantly to disaster preparedness and relief, including leadership roles in National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) battalion establishment in Kolkata and Bihta (Patna) and participation in multiple major disasters such as:
– Cyclone Phailin
– Urban floods in Jammu & Kashmir (2014)
– Cyclone Hudhud (2014)
– Chennai floods (2015)
These were crucial in saving lives and providing humanitarian assistance across affected regions.
May his noble soul rest in peace. Om Shanti.
