We are devastated to share the news of the shocking and untimely passing of our dear friend and yours, the indispensable Avi Batlivala, who kept us well-hydrated and in good cheer every March and April at CPC.
It is quite incredible that someone who had no background in sport herself became such an integral part of one of Kolkata's biggest sporting events, and this was all down to her warmth, generosity, sincerity, and selflessness. Be it a hot Sunday morning, or a late evening nor'wester, or one of our extended 10:30 PM finishes, Avi was a fixture at CPC for those five weeks each year.
It will take us some time to process the fact that she will not be with us next year and beyond, and the best way we can pay tribute to her is to carry forward her sense of dedication, selflessness and hospitality.
We send our love and strength to her husband Nauzer, and her children Tanya and Ayaan and all of Avi's extended family and friends. Rest in peace, our dear Avi. You will be missed more than you would ever have imagined.
