Extremely tragic news. Dr Amrita Ranjan, Professor, Ultra Cyclist, Marathoner, Housewife & Mother of two kids has suffered an accident and died yesterday night (16/11) while cycling on Jaipur-Ajmer Highway near Dudu (Rajasthan). She along with her Husband (Dr Prabhat Ranjan Prasad) and fellow rider (Suraj Srivastava from Decathlon) was attempting a 2000 KM ride in 168 hrs (Lucknow to Mumbai) under the accreditation of WUCA (World Ultra Cycling Association). The team was riding with all precautions, a truck plying near the divider suddenly turned/jumped so many lanes and hit her from behind while she was riding on the extreme left side of the road. Her helmet was crushed under the wheel and she died immediately. This is an irreparable loss for all of us especially for Prabhat Sir and his family. Amrita Ji was and will remain an inspiration to all and especially to those women riders who dares to dream to ride ultra distance. A marvellous human being and friend has been untimely snatched away. We Pedalyatris as a friend and cycling community family mourn her sad demise. May God give courage and strength to his family and the entire cycling community to bear this irreparable loss. May her eternal soul rest in peace.

Ride to Raise Awareness of Breast Cancer
*Sunday 31st Oct 2021*
*05:30 AM to 09:00 AM*
Cancers are the second commonest cause of death in Indian society today and their incidence is increasing steadily. Promotion and preservation of women's health is, therefore, a crucial public health necessity, like their health, or lack of it has a deep impact on the wellbeing of the family and society. Breast cancer is the commonest cancer in Indian women and is an imminently curable cancer, provided patients are diagnosed at an early stage and receive timely and comprehensive treatment. Sadly, due to a lack of awareness and public health initiatives for early-stage detection of breast cancer, many women in India are diagnosed with these cancers in an advanced stage, making them difficult and expensive to treat and cure. Hence, creating awareness about these common cancers and ensuring their detection at an early stage are the needs of the hour for our country.
October is observed as "International breast cancer awareness month". SGPGI Breast Health Programme and doctors from the departments of Endocrine & Breast Surgery, and radiation oncology have been undertaking several activities for raising awareness about breast cancer and emphasizing the need for breast cancer screening and early diagnosis over the last two decades. These efforts, along with the efforts of many other organizations and governments have borne fruit, and there is a shift towards a higher proportion of early-stage, curable breast cancers being diagnosed,
compared to some time ago. However, the journey has just begun, and even today, a substantial proportion, about 40% of breast cancer patients that are treated at SGPGI are in stages III and IV.
On Sunday 31" Oct 2021, the SGPGI community will come together to carry out activities to attract the attention of lay people towards the need for breast cancer awareness and breast cancer screening.
To this goal, we invite the "Pedalyatri" to do a "Ride To Raise Awareness Of Breast Cancer" (R-T-R
ABC) on the morning of Sunday 31" Oct, riding through prominent locations of Lucknow city. Efforts are on to have the ride flagged off by the Honourable Governor of UP from Raj Bhavan. The ride will end in the SGPGI campus, at our Hobby Centre, where all cyclists will be felicitated by the Director of SGPGI.
