Tia Nortonās big dream and her mission to spread the padel message
It is a sport that is gathering momentum at a rapid pace around the world, with Tia Norton leading the charge for a padel revolution in the UK.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is a huge fan of the sport and even has his own range of padel rackets, with former Chelsea captain John Terry and Swedish soccer superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic also regular padel players.
With A-list backing in abundance, padel has been described as a cross between tennis and squash, padel is played on a court surrounded by a perspex surround that allows players to hit the ball after it bounces back off the wall.
Padelās breakthrough moment in the UK came when the Lawn Tennis Association took padel under its wing in November 2020, opening up the prospect of tennis clubs across the country gaining grants to build padel courts to go alongside their existing facilities.
Now padel is being boosted by rising stars like teenager Norton, who spoke to Tennis365 in her role as a Game4Padel ambassador.
āPadel is essentially tennis and squad as the same sport,ā Tia told us. āItās so fun, itās easy to play and one of the best things compared to tennis is you donāt have to run after the ball.

Padel marks new chapter as first official world tour is launched
World Padel Tourās (WPT) players are currently seeking a way out of their contracts through the European Commission in Brussels. Doha News has learned that the players will file a formal complaint within days.
The International Padel Federation (FIP) has launched the only official and fully regulated padel tour on Monday, marking a new chapter in the sportās fast-growing history.
āFinally, our sport has the freedom to shape its destiny; and under FIPās governance we will develop the sport in every corner of the world across all levels ā including beginner, amateur, youth and professional padel,ā said FIP President Luigi Carraro.
The tour is set to kick off its first major game in March, with at least 10 tournaments scheduled for each of 2022 and 2023, and with the support of top players and its partnership with Qatar Sports Investments (QSI).
The number of tournaments per year is expected to rise to over 25 by 2024.

Padel Tennis Hub Launches New Website for Padel Tennis Enthusiasts
Padel Tennis Hub is pleased to announce the launch of its new website that offers exclusive information about this emerging sport. Padel tennis is one of the fastest-growing racket sports and has gained immense popularity among people who love to play badminton, tennis, squash, etc. This website features a wide range of blogs starting with introducing the game. It is a social racket sport which is suitable for all age groups and different playing abilities. It can be played in an enclosed court which is one-third the size of a tennis court. With similar rules to that of tennis, the game is also played with the same kind of balls. The game can be best enjoyed when played by couples.
The Padel Tennis Blog also has a post about the World Padel Tour which gives away total prize money of 2.95 million euros along with bonuses at the end of the season. Approximately 877 professional male and female players compete in 20 and 18 different tournaments respectively. There are four levels in the competition and this blog talks about how the prize money is allocated across each menās and womenās tournament.
Every game needs some gear and padel tennis is no exception. One of the most important gears for this game is the racket itself. The website offers a guide to choosing the best padel racket for beginners. The author suggests that beginners need not go for an advanced racquet as it does nothing but hinder progress. High-end rackets are more advanced, hefty, harsh, and expensive. A light racket is always advisable as it doesnāt weigh the player down. As they advance in the game and become familiar with the techniques, they can upgrade their gear to a sturdier racket.
Padel Tennis Blog features exclusive information on how to choose the right pair of shoes to wear for this sport. Like any other sport, wearing the right footwear is important not just to ace the game but also to keep the feet and ankles safe from heavy impacts and falls. Every player needs high-quality shoes that can offer a firm grip and help them with a balanced landing. The author talks about a special feature called the GEL protective feature that provides the perfect grip and makes it easier for players to play on their feet. Readers will also understand the difference between tennis shoes and padel tennis shoes.

āI got a bit addictedā: Sport of padel on show at Australian Open
Have you ever heard of padel? The international federation for this sport claims it has 18 million players, but itās little known in Australia. Dusty Allen, 38, of Richmond, a longtime casual tennis player, tried it out of curiosity six weeks ago.
āI got a little bit addicted,ā he confessed. Mr Allen said padel was appealing socially . Itās usually played in doubles, and its smaller courts mean players are closer to their opponents than in tennis.
His friends, some of whom arenāt tennis players, like that players serve underarm. āPadel is a lot easier than normal tennis and probably more accessible,ā he said. āIāve noticed that some different mates who I donāt normally play tennis with come down for a hit.ā
This sometimes fast-paced sport, which incorporates elements of squash and tennis, involves slightly lower-compression balls being whacked with a solid paddle, instead of a stringed racquet. Now Tennis Australia has also taken on the game, aiming to build its profile locally.
A pop-up court has been built at Melbourne Park so the public can try the sport and watch exhibition games during the Australian Open. Other ācome and tryā sports at the Open include beach tennis and POP tennis. The first Melbourne padel club recently opened in Lorimer Street, Docklands. Pronounced āpa-DELā, the sport has existed for more than 50 years. Founded in Mexico in 1969, itās popular in South America and in parts of Europe, including Spain and Sweden. Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadalās academy in Mallorca has 13 padel courts, according to its website. Australian professional player and coach Matt Thomas said the top international padel players earned hundreds of thousands of dollars per year.
