First-time managers, do you find it difficult to connect with team-members who are not like you? 🤷♀️
You’re not alone.
Transitioning from an individual contributor role to a manager is exciting but it is also often a time where many trip.
This is because there is no behaviour based transition.
Earlier, your role was task focused and managing only yourself. But now, its not just about doing your tasks, Its about getting work done from others.
And the following mindset can be huge road-block: 🛑
“Assuming what motivates you, will motivate everyone else.”
But the truth is: people are driven by different things. Human motivation is not one-size-fits-all.
💡 Some value recognition.
💡 Others care about money or position.
💡 Some chase mastery and growth.
💡 Some seek purpose.
And here’s the key — most of us are a blend of these factors.
And interestingly, these drivers are not fixed. They change with time, age, and their situation in life. 👨🦰 👩 👱♀️ 👴
For example, a 22-year-old might be motivated by recognition and quick career growth.
The same person at 35 may prioritize purpose or work-life balance.
So, before you walk into a conversation with a team member, pause and ask yourself:
“What does this person value right now? And how can I align their work with that driver?” 🤔
Your ability to connect across these differences shows your adaptability and emotional intelligence.
And that’s what makes a manager worth following.

So go ahead, make that mistake.
Take the lesson it’s trying to teach you.
And grow!

What matters more as a leader- Warmth or Competence?
You will be surprised to know the truth! 😯
When you move from an individual contributor to a team leader, one thought often takes over:
"I need to prove I can handle this."
✅ So you focus on performance.
✅ On being efficient.
✅ On knowing all the answers.
But that is not sufficient!
Here’s something powerful to remember 👇
According to Harvard researcher Amy Cuddy on “Leadership presence”, people judge leaders on two things:
1️⃣ Warmth – Can I trust you?
2️⃣ Competence – Can I respect you?
And what do you think comes first?
It is TRUST.
See, your team already assumes you’re competent. What they’re really looking for is connection.
🫴 Do you listen?
🫴 Do you care?
🫴 Do you make them feel safe to speak up?
Here’s the truth:
Being dictatorial or dominating isn't a sign of strength—
It’s a sign of insecurity.
And being friendly or warm?
That’s not weakness.
That’s what REAL leadership looks like.
By warmth, I don't mean being passive or a doormat.
Warmth is NOT about being “nice.”
It’s about being human.
🫰 Present.
🫰Clear-headed.
🫰Approachable.
As you grow into leadership, don’t just bring your expertise.
Bring your empathy.
Because real leadership isn’t about being the smartest in the room—
It’s about creating a space where everyone can shine. 💫

No, relationship is not just candles & roses..🌹🕯️
Its about acceptance,
Its about sacrificing happily,
Its about trying to understand the space your partner is coming from,
Its about being there when they feel low and just want to be heard,
But it’s also about giving them space for their own introspection.
It’s about being a team.
Not perfect yet united in love, wisdom & committed for a higher cause. 😊
Don’t fall in love..
Rise in love.
