On average, on any given day, one loses around 25 to 50 strands of hair. But sometimes the hair loss rises exponentially due to various reasons. Hair loss could be hereditary, which is called alopecia. Or hair loss could happen because of hormonal changes during puberty, pregnancy, childbirth, birth control pills, menopause, etc. If one undergoes any major surgery, illness or a traumatic event, the regular hair growth cycle can come to a halt, and result in hair loss.
Medical conditions also create hurdles in hair loss prevention. These include thyroid, alopecia areata which is an autoimmune disease that attacks hair follicles, scalp infections like ringworm and scarring-causing diseases like lichen planus and some types of lupus. Medications for cancer, depression, arthritis, heart problems, and high blood pressure can also result in hair loss. Emotional or physical trauma can also bring about hair loss. Another major reason, especially in todays era, for hair loss, is the chemicals and high heat used in hair treatments . Not eating protein-rich, iron-rich food will also cause hair loss. The pollutants in the air and the weather change can also affect hair resulting in hair loss. The lifestyle that we lead these days is filled with stress many times, and this also causes hair loss.

Tip: The causes of hair loss are many, but many of them are treatable, so ensure you eat healthily and avoid chemicals in hair to ensure hair loss prevention.
