We are happy to announce the introduction of #StoriesOfTheStadium, a module where we will be sharing special stories and incidents, connected with the MCA Stadium.

For our first special story, we wish to bring out the pure love, passion and support of this incredible Team India fan – Sudhir Kumar Gowtham! Also known to all the cricket fans and lovers in India and world over as Sudhir Chaudhary, we present yet another facet of Sudhir’s love for his team.

For the India versus England ODI series held at the MCA International Stadium, Gahunje from March 23 to March 28, Sudhir was, as is his wont, cheering India – albeit from a distance. With the Covid 19 advisory mandating no spectators allowed in the Stadium, Sudhir took it on himself to scale the nearby Ghoravdeshwar Hill (a hill that overlooks the MCA Stadium) and cheer Team India, from the top of the hill!

When we spoke to him, he was endearingly earnest. “Well, I was not going to miss supporting the team and I was not allowed in the Stadium. So I scaled up the hill and waved the flag and cheered the team from there”. Incredibly, Sudhir did this for all the three games. On prodding him further, he added “I used to be ready (paint on his body, ‘Tendulkar’ written on his back and the India flag in his hand) at 12:55 pm for every game, on top of the hill. Right after the toss at 1:00 pm, I used to start waving the flag. Every boundary and sixer I blew my conch”. With shouts of ‘Bharat Maata ki Jai’ and ‘Vande Mataram’ punctuating his flag waiving, this routine used to continue till the matches were completed, well into the night, for all three days.

And, it did not stop here. After every game, Sudhir came down to the MCA Stadium (from the hill) and took his position outside the Stadium gate. To cheer the Indian Team bus, on their way back to the hotel. “I used to come down to the Stadium gate after every game and wish the team on their win, for their effort as they went back to the hotel”.

With Sudhir, we always think we have seen it all. In terms of passion and love, for the Indian team. And yet, he continues to surprise us, delight us, actually. Incrementally.

An Indian who is arguably the biggest supporter of the team. Who came and stayed with his good friend Rajender Kamble (who stays close to the MCA Stadium) from March 22 to March 31. Who found a way to support his team over mandates and policies. Who scaled the hill for every game and was ‘ready’ before the toss. Who stood in the sun waving the India Flag to cheer the team, who blew his conch for every single boundary and sixer (he knew the boundary and six hits through his friend who had the commentary on, on the radio), who scaled down the hill after every game to take his position at the MCA Stadium gate to congratulate the India team by waving the flag and blowing his conch, who then retired after he was sure that the team bus was out of sight. To go back home and come back again, ready with his routine - for three full days, for three full games.

We doff our hat to Sudhir! It is one thing to have love and passion for the team, game and country - quite another, to demonstrate it so endearingly and so whole heartedly. Every single time.

We stand greatly inspired and look forward to have Sudhir at the MCA Stadium, soon, at his chosen place – waving the flag, blowing his conch and cheering Team India!

India win a full ODI series at the MCA Stadium!

It has been a great run for the team at the MCA Stadium, especially over the last #threeyears. Across the #threeformats.

In 2019 October, India beat South Africa for their first Test win at the MCA Stadium that helped them take an unassailable 2-0 series winning lead.

Last year in January, India beat Sri Lanka in the third T20I at the MCA Stadium to win the series 2-0.

This year, the Indian team won a well fought full ODI series here at the MCA Stadium and we are absolutely happy and thrilled! A win always makes everything more special.

We thank every person involved, for the effort and support for conducting this ODI series and remain thankful to our fans, supporters and well-wishers.

We take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy Holi and a safe and healthy year 2021!

A great disciplined effort with the ball backed up with great fielding restricts India to 329 runs for the loss of all wickets.

The spinners were the surprise package with Rashid, Moeen and Livingstone picking up four top order wickets. The pacers then polished off the tail with India folding up with 10 balls to spare.

India ride on fifties from Pandya and Pant!

However, England come back hard and have picked up both the set batsmen. India with 10 overs to play and 4 wickets in hand, look to be in a tricky position.

Fantastic 50! And counting!

A proud and happy moment for all of us at the Maharashtra Cricket Association as we complete 50 international games - with the final game of the India-England ODI series, tomorrow.

2 Test matches, 7 ODI’s, 3 T20Is and 38 IPL games is how we have fared on the scoreboard over the last nine years. With almost six games conducted per year, we have been scoring at a healthy average.

As for the strike rate, we have 3 Test centuries, 5 ODI centuries and 6 T20I fifties. Across the formats - 161 maximums, 13 three wicket hauls and 2 five wickets hauls headline the stats sheet. Clearly indicating that it’s been an even contest between bat and ball with good playing surfaces and outfield, on offer.

Making for competitive and entertaining cricket, all along!

Tomorrow, with the 50th international game, we raise a toast to the ‘Gentleman’s Game’ and look forward to savour the happiness - of the effort and of the milestone!
