France Bans Hijabi Athletes at the 2024 Olympics: Ibtihaj Muhammad, Rahaf Khatib, and Manal Rostom Weigh In on the Decision 26/07/2024

Read my sentiments on France’s hijab ban at the Olympics

“France’s hijab ban on Muslim athletes is racist. Plain and simple. There is nothing to back up this discriminatory ban. It’s like banning athletes from wearing the yamaka or the wearing the cross. It’s clearly a deep rooted and systemic bias against Muslim female athletes and I feel so much anger, sadness, resentment towards this ‘ban’.”

is less than two weeks away and I can’t help feel a sense of guilt going into such a holy month when my fellow brothers and sisters in P@a lestine are suffering a Gen0cide£ at the hands of their occupiers 😢

It’s a well known fact that every year during the settler colony makes things 100x worse for p@leatinians. And it doesn’t seem like there will be a ceasefire or peace til then 😞 That just means we have to keep up with our advocacy and raise awareness for justice. And make plenty of of Dua 🤲🏽 (prayer) during this holy month.

I’ve attached some slides (taken from Muslimprofessionals page) for my non Muslim friends about Ramadan just some basic info that I hope you’ll read through. I’ve also started to make some adjustments in preparation for Ramadan that I’ll talk about in another post. For now, I’m soaking up the sunshine and pounding my frustrations away at the pavement ✌🏽🍉

Helping organize and speak at my city’s council meeting urging for a ceasefire is a moment I’ll never forget! Turning my passion for the sport into action for humanitarian causes really fills my cup more than any PR can! Plz listen and write to your own cities council for a resolution for ceasefire! I’ll post my speech below. 🙏🏽🍉

This is something I’ve pointed out repeatedly over the years. Not just now, with all that’s happening, but way before October 7. Brands continue to ignore us, a very prominent part of their communities never ever wishing us a Happy Eid or Ramadan. Nothing. It’s as if we don’t exist to them. The Muslim presence to them is insignificant. Yet we continue to run their races and purchase their gear, partner with them as tokens for their ads. From now everyone of you should kindly remind them that we too have holidays and we do expect them to wish us happy holidays as well. It’s not that we need it, it’s about respecting their consumers EQUALLY. ✌🏽🍉🤎

Post looking a bit different today. 🍉

I stand in solidarity with the innocent P@lestinians of G@z@. We won’t be silenced. No more war. No more of our tax money supporting this gen0cide. Let P@lestinians live in dignity and freedom. Release all hostages including the p@lestinian hostages held without trial or charges. ✌🏽 .collective 🤎 Know Collective

I’ve cancelled two running partnerships, I declined two interviews (not about Palestine), and am reaching a point where I find my voice to be falling on deaf ears when it comes to the broader running community.

I know this the outcome of a caring, MORAL human being with intense feelings of sadness for her people. Yet, it’s hard to feel betrayed by those you’ve worked with, those that smiles in my face and said, “we support u all they way, we stand by you” to find that they actually don’t.

My existence and acceptance is only applauded when I’m making headlines. Appearing in marketing ads.
I’m applauded when I keep it light and cute.

But something inside me burns and my conscience won’t let me just post light hearted running stats and beautiful fall running photos when my people r going through a genocide. But I wouldn’t have it any other way. Because one day I’ll be standing in-front of God and he’ll ask me, “what did u do with your platform? How did you stand up with humanity? How did you use running as a vehicle for social, humanistic change?!”

Last week I met with Kiera who is Executive Director of the Running Industry Diversity Coalition :) RRunning Industry Diversity Coalition
She gave me useful and insightful advice for working with brands. We collaborated on some projects in the past in the name of inclusivity and diversity that the brands are slowly building upon.

I look forward to working with her more and further pushing the narrative that a runner needs to “look” or perform a certain way. Together we can break these stereotypes.

Getting lost in unfamiliar places, ending up running in a beautiful park with a spectacular castle as my backdrop is why I run on vacations. Aka runcations. While I Love to , I also Love to “hate” it too. But yet we get up and do it anyway. You feel better when it’s done, never regretting it. No matter how long or how short it is. I ALWAYS feel better afterwards, sometimes wishing I can do more and more. 🏃🏽‍♀️
