🇮🇹 Un aggiornamento su Giovanni Prosperi.
In tanti ci avete scritto in questi giorni per sapere come sta dopo l'incidente del 10 settembre negli Stati Uniti durante la corsa.
Katarina è con lui in terapia intensiva al Trauma ICU di Rochester (New York) e ci aggiorna giorno per giorno. L'impatto è stato durissimo: la bici si è spezzata in due e Gianni ha riportato la frattura della colonna vertebrale, un polmone collassato, costole e naso rotti, più una lesione a un rene.
L'operazione alla schiena è andata bene: i chirurghi sono riusciti a fissare le vertebre con una gabbia per proteggere il midollo e scongiurare danni neurologici. I giorni successivi sono stati tosti: è finito intubato per una polmonite con sepsi e la pressione era crollata.
Da un paio di giorni la situazione ha iniziato a girare: Non ha più bisogno di farmaci per la pressione. Con l'aiuto dei fisioterapisti riesce già a mettersi seduto in poltrona. Katarina gli ha lavato i capelli, lui è lucido e comunica scrivendo quello che vuole dire sullo schermo dello smartphone.
Oggi ha fatto la prima prova di respirazione autonoma. Il ventilatore è ancora attaccato per sicurezza e sta facendo una terapia antibiotica per la febbre, ma la testa c'è: oggi ha strappato un sorriso a tutti chiedendo una Coca Cola fresca.
Come gli abbiamo scritto ieri: una Time Station alla volta. E quando ti senti giù, pensa al vento contrario del Kansas.

🇬🇧 An update on Gianni Prosperi.
Many of you have reached out over the past few days asking how Gianni is doing after his crash on September 10th during the race in the United States.
Katarina is with him in the Trauma ICU in Rochester, New York, keeping us updated day by day. The impact was brutal: the bike snapped in two, and Gianni suffered a fractured spine, a collapsed lung, broken ribs, facial fractures, and kidney trauma.
His back surgery went well. The surgeons stabilized the vertebrae with a cage to protect his spinal cord and prevent nerve damage. The days that followed were very tough: he ended up intubated after developing pneumonia with sepsis, and his blood pressure had dropped dangerously low.
Over the last couple of days, things have started moving in the right direction: He is completely off blood pressure medications. With the help of the physical therapists, he is already able to sit up in a chair. Katarina washed his hair, he is clear-headed, and he communicates by typing notes on his phone screen.
Today he had his first trial of breathing on his own. The ventilator is still connected as a precaution while antibiotics take care of a fever, but his mind and spirit are right there: today he made everyone smile by asking for a cold Coca-Cola.
As we messaged him yesterday: one Time Station at a time. And when you feel down, think of the Kansas headwind.
