Through Black History Month we celebrate prominent figures in the soccer community that elevated the game, the passion, and most important, themselves.

Otey Cannon was the first Black American soccer player in the NASL making his debut for the Dallas Tornado in 1972. He continued on to play for the Seattle Sounders as well as the Sacramento Spirits.

Sandi Gordon a defender from Pierce County, Washington is the first black woman to make an appearance for The US Women’s National Team in 1987 against Sweden. Paving the way for black women the likes of Briana Scurry and Sydney Leroux to help the national team to win several World Cups.
