B Platoon utilizing Engine 20 operated at this 2nd Alarm fire today. Thank you to our volunteer staff and mutual aid partners for their continued assistance.
Earlier today, at approximately 8:40 a.m., the Lawrence Township Fire Department responded to a multi-alarm structure fire at Motel 6, located at 2995 Brunswick Pike in Lawrenceville.
Upon arrival, first responders encountered heavy black smoke coming from a second-floor motel room. Lawrence Township career firefighters immediately initiated aggressive rescue and fire suppression operations.
Due to dangerous smoke conditions in the hallway, several motel residents became trapped inside their second-floor rooms and were unable to safely exit. Firefighters successfully rescued multiple occupants by utilizing ground ladders to access the balconies of the affected rooms.
This incident marks another fire response since the implementation of Lawrence Township’s new 24/5 career fire staffing schedule. Lawrence Township volunteer firefighters also responded and worked side-by-side with career staff to assist with fire suppression operations.
Today’s incident once again put the Township’s newly implemented fire response model to the test under real emergency conditions, and it performed exactly as intended. The rapid response by career firefighters, combined with the continued dedication and support of volunteer firefighters, resulted in the successful rescue of multiple occupants and a swift, coordinated fire attack.
Mutual aid assistance was also provided by West Windsor Fire & Emergency Services, Hamilton Township Fire Department, Princeton Fire Department, and Ewing Township Fire Department.
The fire remains under investigation at this time.
