BLUE MOUNTAIN PEAK NIGHT HIKE.

TUESDAY FEBRUARY 17, 2026.
9:00 PM Meeting @ University of Technology (Utech)
10:00 PM: Depart Utech for start point at Whitfield Hall
RETURNING: Utech on February 18; by 3:00PM (Ash Wednesday)

EVENT COST: $12,500.00 includes transportation, trail guides, trail user fee and breakfast.

AFTER HIKE BREAKFAST OPTION:
1. Brown Stewed Chicken
2 . Mackerel Rundung
3. Saltfish and steamed vegetables.
*** One meal choice served with boiled ground provisions***
Fruit Juice, coffee or mint tea.

HIKE DISTANCE: 13 miles in total (6.5 miles one-way).

HIKE DIFFICULTY: Rated 8 of 10. Difficult: fitness and endurance required.

JAMAICA HIKING AND HERITAGE TOURS invites you to share with us the experience of hiking through Jamaica's World Heritage Site, experiencing four (4) forest levels along the Blue Mountain Peak Trail.
We hike for the pride of summiting Jamaica's highest peak and also the third highest peak in the Caribbean. Look forward to the possibility of a spectacular sunrise and the scenery that will greet you along the trail.

DIFFICULTY: Rated 3 of 10 ( Easy to moderate)

DESCRIPTION
DISTANCE: 6 MILES OR 10km: This event will take place in the Wheelerfield and Johnson Mountain communities in St.Thomas; partly along roadway and up through a forest trail and ending with lunch at a section of the Plantain Garden River.
NB. The forest trail shows no impact of Melissa and will reward you with spectacular views from the hills, across the canefields to the coastline.
YOUR EFFORT: Easy to moderate

COST: $11,500.00 for transportation, guides and lunch.

DESCRIPTION: This event was designed as a blend between nature and heritage.

We will begin with a 5 miles (8 km) hike across the Santa Cruz Mountain from Mountainside District to Retrieve District.
The Southern view along the trail is spectacular because it overlooks the Black River Morass and South St. Elizabeth coastline.
The trail has a nice bit of heritage, but it doesn't stop there; as after lunch we will be visiting other heritage sites such as St.Alban Anglican Church, Munro College and Lover's Leap for the spectacular points of view across the terrain. You will be to see the terrain and lighthouse

RATED: 6 ( difficult but manageable) fitness and endurance required.
Steady climb with limited forest cover and great views.

HURRICANE CARE PACKAGES.
Care Packages are still need in this location; please feel to take a package of non-perishable items with you, as the area is still without water and electricity.
Packages will be distributed from the bus; so there is no need to be concerned about the weight since you won't be hiking with it.
Persons that are unable to attend this event,can drop off their packages on the morning of the event at Utech.

DATE: SATURDAY 23 AUGUST 2025 

EVENT DURATION: 5:30am to 6:00pm.
 ** Meet at Utech 5:30 am and drive out at 6:00 am.
Utech to Hayfield, St.Thomas  returning via Junction, St.Mary.

HIKE RATING: Difficulty level 4 of 10 (Moderate). Gentle 2 miles incline, 3.5 miles downhill and 2 miles flat. At the end of the hike, your lunch and river experience will be at the Katawud village.

 HIKE COST: $14,500.00.....Includes transportation, guides, trail user fee and lunch.
*** Please add an additional $2,000.00  for the Wild Hog and Crayfish (Janga) ***

 The Cunha Cunha Pass is a national monument and heritage trail as designated by the Jamaica National Heritage Trust because of its historical value as a trade route; and as a tribute to  our national heroine:The Right Excellent Nanny of the Maroons, leader of the Windward Maroons to deny  English forces  access to their jungle fortress. 

 As you hike this trail look out for the Giant Swallow-tail butterfly and the Black Billed Streamer-tail humming Bird (Doctor bird); both are endemic to Jamaica and confined to the Eastern sector of the island.
 *** The maroons say that if you see the Giant Swallowtail Butterfly, it is a welcoming greeting from the ancestors. AKWAABA ! ***
