The EKACDM Initiative supports International Day for Disaster Reduction. A life saved is the greatest benefit of reducing disaster risk.
This year's edition of International Day for Disaster Reduction on 13 October marks the start of the "Sendai Seven Campaign – 7 Targets, 7 Years”. It's an advocacy initiative to encourage implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, with the goal of saving lives, reducing disaster losses and improving management of disaster risk. Funding is available to students and staff conducting research in the fields of Disaster Risk Management,
Knowledge Management, Gender Studies and Climate Change Adaptation.
Funding is also available for National Disaster Office Staff for attending a DRM course or temporary attachment to a DRM body.
Exchanges can take place with any Canadian or Caribbean University and the following from SIDS: University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, University of Malta, University of Mauritius, University of Seychelles, University of South Pacific ,University of the Virgin Islands

There are many regional organizations that specifically focus on disaster management in the Caribbean.

The possible Tropical Storm Hermine is likely to cause damage to the Bahamas and the northern Caribbean. Otherwise known as Invest 99L, the storm is likely to cause heavy rainfall in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Haiti.
