We were hanging out throwing around business ideas and decided to create Island Cycle after carefully considering a few options. Twitter: @IslandCycleJA
Island Cycle was established in 2011 by Xavier Bedasee and Leanne Talbot, aged 26 and 25 - old school mates with a tremendous drive and passion for entrepreneurship. Since inception we have spent our time promoting recycling at environmental expos & schools, researching various aspects of the industry and pulling together all possible resources to develop our business concept. With environmental s
ustainability being a rapidly increasing global concern, our goal at Island Cycle is to implement a recycling structure for Jamaica and the wider Caribbean. Island Cycle will make recycling easier for the average person by providing a gate collecting service in residential and commercial areas. Our Goal is to establish an island-wide recycling system and expand throughout the Caribbean. We have a series of methods for collecting recyclable materials from households, schools, offices, hotels, gated communities, gullies, beaches, other public recreational areas etc. Though we intend to expand and recycle a wide range of materials in the future, in our early stages we will be focusing on plastic. Once the recyclables have been collected they will be shredded/compressed and shipped to manufacturers overseas who recycle them to make new products. In 2011 Leanne Talbot was selected to represent Island Cycle as one of the first set of entrepreneurs at the Branson Centre of Entrepreneurship. Among approximately 2500 applications we were chosen along with 12 others to receive support such as business training, mentorship & access to a network of successful entrepreneurs in the Caribbean. Though we are not yet fully operational we have been focusing on raising environmental awareness by educating the public via school presentations, advertisements, expos, public awareness campaigns etc. We are looking for the support of corporations, corporations, investors and environmental organisations/groups to launch full operations.
