Called to Lead Jamaica is the recipient of a USD10,000 grant from the United Nations Development Program through its Amplifying Youth Voices and Action Project. The funding is given to youth groups whose thematic focus concern safety and security.
We will be running an intervention project targeting 50-75 students in the Downtown Kingston and past mentees in our program. This also includes students who have been absent during the 2020-2021 academic year. It will involve a combination of weekly mentoring sessions held on Saturdays from 10am to 1pm, educational trips, school beautification projects and the awarding of financial assistance to the mentees so they can resume school in September 2021.

Today we discuss the strength of a woman, HER resilience, HER strength, and HER dominance in her endeavors whether on the track or off the track. ππΎββοΈ
These women dominate the track and continue clearing and removing barriers. These women are an inspiration to us all, and shows us that neither motherhood, pregnancy, athletics and mental injuries can hold them back.
& as we cheer these women on in their endeavors.

In the last few weeks, we have seen mental health in the spotlight for new reasons. Sport has woken up to the pressure and mental fatigue some of the world's greatest sports women and men are facing.
Not only is it inspiring to see people who are in the media day in day out, openly and honestly talk about their mental health, but it's encouraging to see how (most of) the media and supporters are reacting to it. While we still have a long way to go to truly break the stigma and accept mental health, in the same manner, we accept physical health, we are definitely seeing a change in attitude.
These 3 sporting heroes and role models, will have inspired a huge amount of people who are facing their own demons. Everyone and anyone can and will face mental health challenges, no matter who you are. We are all humans and we are never alone.
Thank you to Simone, Naomi and Ben for listening to your body and mind, and acknowledging you need a break. It will have an immeasurable impact on those facing mental health challenges.

Called to Lead Jamaica is my fight against crime and violence. Every mentoring relationship that is built that forms a bridge for positive values has the potential to dent the criminal recruitment systems in our vulnerable communities. Every mindset that we help to positively mould, is one less Gleaner article about a murder or late night news report about a shooting.β β

The investment of time, love and guidance we make in the lives of our peers may save our own lives.

Meet Ruth-Ann!
I am so happy to be part of this initiative that is being done by Called to Lead and grateful for the sponsorship from the UNDP. My hope is that the students we come in contact with during this time, will be positively impacted and through the lessons they learn from us, they will be able to make a difference in the spaces they are part of.
"Do all the good you can,
By all the means you can,
In all the ways you can,
In all the places you can,
At all the times you can,
To all the people you can,
As long as ever you can."

A Story of Growth
Called to Lead Jamaica (CALLJa) is a youth led non-profit organization birthed from a desire of youth leaders to support youth whose circumstances challenge their development. Our volunteers interact with the students on a weekly basis, building relationships that foster effective mentorship. Guided by the CALLJa/HOPE joint curriculum the sessions cover three broad themes: leadership, life skills training and personal development. We request students who display anti-social and maladaptive behaviours. They are identified and assigned to our volunteers by guidance counsellors and deans of discipline.
As at June 2018 ,we have approximately sixty (60) active volunteers between the ages 18-22 but our volunteer eligibility age spans 16-29. We are predominantly tertiary students. Our standard volunteer team size is three to five.
During our pilot, April 2017-May 2018, we worked with 200 students from the following institutions:
