International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction 2026
Today, JALGO joins the global community in observing International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction under the theme Resilience Starts at Home.
As Jamaica continues to recover from the devastating impact of Hurricane Melissa, we are reminded that resilience begins with safe, secure homes and communities. For many Jamaicans, including our valued members who work tirelessly to deliver essential services, recovery remains a daily struggle.
Some are still facing significant challenges with their homes, working to restore a sense of safety, stability and normalcy for themselves and their families.
At JALGO, we recognise that behind every service delivered is a person, a family and a home. Those who dedicate themselves to serving others also need care, support and the opportunity to rebuild. As we reflect on this year’s theme, let us remember that disaster resilience is not only about preparing for the next emergency, but also about supporting those who are still recovering from the last one.
Let us continue to look out for one another, support our affected members and communities, and work together to build safer, stronger and more resilient homes for all.
This International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, JALGO stands in solidarity with every Jamaican on the road to recovery. Together, let us rebuild with hope, strengthen our preparedness and ensure that no one is left behind.
