It has been a decade since we lost Nina. There is something about the gravity of ten years and her absence that feels especially heavy today. We wonder often what might she be doing. Where would she be living? Where would her curiosity and passions have taken her? Nina was robbed of that opportunity to find out. Today we mourn, remember, and honor Nina 🧡

Six years on and this date never gets easier. Thinking of Nina today and always. In a year full of grief and loss, the foundation has cautiously been monitoring the health situation, and we look forward to the day soon that we can all reconvene. Until then, we’ll continue to remember Nina and celebrate her life, passion for justice, and love of sports ❤️

Thank you to AMIDEAST for celebrating one of our team members! Ru'a Al-Abweh is a head coach with the Nina Brekelmans Running Camp for Girls. This year, she helped plan the digital campaign which we shared as an alternative to the camp, since we had to cancel camp because of COVID-19. This digital campaign included stories of women in sports, home workouts, (mentioned in the post by AMIDEAST) and memories of previous camps -all submitted by female athletes.
While studying in the United States, Jordanian Fulbright Program for the Middle East and North Africa alumna Ru'a fell in love with running through the November Project, a fitness community. She brought her passion for fitness home to Jordan where she became head coach at a girl’s running camp that was established in the memory of a Fulbrighter who passed away. Today, with the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting lockdown, she is encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle through social media, sharing stories of women in fitness and streaming workouts to keep girls active even while at home.
