the five vrittis (modifications of the mind) are:
1. Pramāṇa – Right knowledge (based on perception, inference, or testimony)
2. Viparyaya – Misconception or false knowledge
3. Vikalpa – Imagination or fantasy without a real object
4. Nidrā – Sleep (a state of mental modification)
5. Smṛti – Memory (retained impressions of past experiences)

🕉️ Yoga helps us quiet these vrittis to reach stillness and self-realization.

“Vṛttayaḥ pañcatayyaḥ kliṣṭā akliṣṭāḥ”
➡️ “The modifications of the mind are five types, and they are either painful or non-painful.”

✨ This sutra reminds us that our thoughts shape our inner world — some bring peace, others disturb it. Through yoga, we learn to observe and master them, not be ruled by them. 🧘‍♀️💫

“Vṛtti-sārūpyam itaratra” — At other times, the Seer identifies with the fluctuations of the mind. 🌊
When the mind is restless, we lose touch with our true self and become one with our thoughts and emotions. 🕉️✨

“Yogaḥ citta-vṛtti-nirodhaḥ” — Yoga is the stilling of the fluctuations of the mind. 🕉️
When the mind becomes quiet, our true self shines through — calm, pure, and unshaken. 🌿✨

“Tadā draṣṭuḥ svarūpe avasthānam”
In the silence between thoughts, the soul remembers itself.
This is yoga—not becoming more, but returning home.

“Yoga is the stilling of the fluctuations of the mind.” – Yoga Sutra 1.2
This profound line, “Yogaś citta-vṛtti-nirodhaḥ”, is the essence of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. It teaches that true yoga begins when the mind becomes calm and centered, free from distractions. All other practices lead us toward this stillness.

“Yoga isn’t about performing or perfecting—it’s about coming home to yourself. Each practice is a gentle reminder to shed the images that no longer serve us and reconnect with who we truly are. Let’s stop chasing perfect and start embracing real.”

“What you give to yoga—a little time, effort, and presence—it gives back tenfold: peace, strength, and clarity. The more you invest in the practice, the deeper the rewards. 🧘‍♀️✨ ”
