A Conclusion-
With heavy hearts we have ended our Gulari Scutt Tokyo 2020 Olympic campaign.

For various reasons we couldn’t be at the top of our game on all fronts. Our results were improving, but not at the rate we wanted them to, and we were not enjoying the process enough to continue this fight to gold in 2020 together.

We are proud of our resilience and continuing recoveries from our serious injuries early on. However, carrying on the pursuit of gold together with anything less than our full energy, time investment, and focus is not an option.

Neither one of us is ready to announce next plans, as stepping away from this venture is not something we take lightly.

We are extremely grateful to our sponsors and supporters for their help through thick and thin. It’s hard to comprehend the community effort necessary to support a winning campaign unless you’ve done one, because there are so many aspects to success in racing a double-handed, highly technical boat. We had an incredible team around us.

Today we start racing Enoshima Olympic Week, a three-day regatta that will give us a chance to put into practice what we’ve been working on this week, as well as more racing experience at the 2020 Olympic venue.

We’ve enjoyed exploring our surroundings when we have a chance... It’s not very often that the Great Buddha (built in 1252, survived a tsunami) is just down the road, or a traditional Japanese hot springs onsen (spa)
is a day-off option! Enoshima and the surrounding cities will be fantastic 2020 hosts, with a lot of enthusiasm for the Games (see the Nacra 17 on a poster in the train station that’s part of my daily commute!) and a rich history and culture to share as well.

Started the medal race well today but didn’t keep the lead, ultimately 10th overall here at Sailing World Cup Enoshima! Congratulations to Jason & Lisa (AUS) for an excellent medal race and taking the win overall.

We are excited about our progress since the Worlds in Aarhus last month and that we made the most of this great opportunity, the first Nacra 17 regatta on the 2020 Olympic waters.
We have one more regatta here next weekend (Sept 22-24), Enoshima Olympic Week, and look forward to training this week in between! 🗾🍚🍜⛩

The face I make when there's not enough wind for racing!
Today we waited onshore in hope of decent breeze but the rain showers won in the end. On the bright side, we are excited to race in the medal race tomorrow!

Today was our best day of the event so far, moved up to 10th overall after finishing 14th-8th-3rd. We’ve made strides in lots of areas and it’s exciting to see the work start to pay off!
Tomorrow is the last day of racing before the medal race, so the goal tomorrow is to solidify our spot in the top ten. Thanks for your support so far this week! 🇺🇸🇯🇵

Really fun racing today! Shifty and puffy, never a dull moment! Also gotta love the flat water ripping downwind.
17th-6th-11th today, still in 11th overall. The fleet here is pretty small but stacked, and we’re loving the close racing.

10-10-11 today (day 1), currently 11th overall but more importantly, happy with the improvements on the areas we’ve been focusing on.
Offshore breeze in the mid-teens, shifty and puffy with flat water meant quick and demanding laps and great racing here at the Olympic venue!

Racing starts tomorrow at the Sailing World Cup Enoshima! We are excited for our first regatta at the 2020 Olympic venue.
We’ve had lots of wind and plenty of waves to keep things spicy! 🌶 It’s been a great chance to develop technique both upwind and downwind in wavier conditions than our usual venues. 1 shark sighting 🦈 😳 for us too!
