An anthropology project on sound in Japan We record sounds across the prefectures of Japan, covering a wide variety of themes.
Sonic Japan is a sound blog and sound map featuring ambient recordings and images that communicate sonic life in Japan. The sounds of aikido training at a dojo, of streetscapes in dense urban neighborhoods and of fish selling practices at the market are just a few of the fascinating scenes we've managed to capture. Sonic Japan is part of an ongoing project in anthropology by Melbourne University,

Sonic Japan features in Monash news
The sounds of Japan: researchers collect and share thousands of sounds from Japanese daily life - Monash Arts News A team of researchers from universities including Harvard, Nichibunken, Melbourne University, and Monash Japanese Studies Professor Carolyn Stevens, are collecting sounds of Japan to develop a ‘sonic repository’ of the country.
