We play, we learn, we move forward

Match Summary: Royal Osaka Tiger vs Osaka Raiders 2-Apr-2022

Royal Osaka Tigers(ROT) opened the 2022 season with a heartbreaking 1 run loss to the Osaka Raiders. The result didn’t go our way but we will learn and come back stronger.

Osaka Raiders won the toss and chose to Bat first. The openers started off briskly with 4 boundaries in first 2 overs, but ROT new ball bowlers Sanjeev(4-20-3) and Kunwar Mahender (4-20-1) struck back with quick wickets to have Raiders 40/4 in 8 overs. Raiders then finished with 108 with Taniyama top scoring with 33 and ROT bowlers Arun 28/2, Devan 22/1 and Sunny 4/2 picking up the remaining wickets. ROT had a slow start to the innings and barring Kunwar Mahender (50) no batsman could enter double digit score. With 3 runs needed off the last 3 balls ROT lost 3 Run Out wickets on each ball and lost the match by 1 run. The match was a nailbiter and the result could have gone either way. We are sure our team will learn from playing in such tense situations and come back stronger.

Umpire training course update:

Last Saturday Kansai teams had a great umpiring session, all thanks to ICC umpire Chris Thurgate and JCA community manager Dhugal Bedingfield.
JCA level 2 training was very important to maintain high standards of Kansai cricket and minimize umpiring errors during the game.
All teams representative participants were very vocal and shown huge interest by asking minute details and subsequently details were explained very well by ICC representatives.
ROT Thank JCA for providing this wonderful opportunity to raise the level of cricket in Kansai.
Sharing some glimpse from the day…

Miracles do happen…

ROT's new-ball bowlers (Kunwar Mahender and Sanjeev Kumar) watched their batters collapse, then crafted a Twenty20 spell of astounding quality to slam the opponents Kobe Tigers into a wall, claiming combined figures of 8 wickets for 19 runs as ROT defended a mere 69 and made to the semi-finals of Japan Cup Kansai Division-1.

In a must-win game for both sides ROT captain, Deven Kale won the toss on a tricky and slightly wet surface and elected to bat first. But some unlucky dismissals and disciplined bowling by the opposition team hauled the ROT batting. ROT only managed 69 runs in 14 overs on a surface that was offering both seam and swing throughout the innings.

With their back against the walls and defending the lowest score in the tournament ROT pacers came out all cylinders firing. Both Left-arm pacers hit their lengths from ball one and soon had the opposition in trouble with their pace and swing. Kunwar Mahender finished with 4-8-4 and Sanjeev Kumar had 4-11-4. Satyabadi picked up a wicket in his first. of left-arm fast bowling at both the ends and the opposition batters had no answer to the quality of bowling. Last wicket partnership of 29 runs added some hope of revival of a fightback, but an excellent outfield diving catch by Kunwar Mahender off the bowling of off-spinner Ritesh had the Opposition all out for 49 runs and handed ROT a 20-run victory.

A team is known for the fighting spirit it shows in the field and this performance was a total team effort by the ROT players in the field.

Always remember “In life and sports there is no such thing as impossible; it ’s always possible”

Brief Scorecard

ROT 69 (13.5) Sanjeev 12, Brijesh Sharma 16/4

Kobe Tigers 49 (16.5) Md Romzan 18, Kunwar Mahender 8/4, Sanjeev 11/4

ROT won by 20 runs

PLAYER OF THE MATCH- Kunwar Mahender

We co ordinally invite you to the match between ROYAL OSAKA TIGERS and KOBE HAWKS on 1st August 2021 at KAIZUKA CRICKET FIELD(KCF).
As these two teams are Runner ups and Champions of Kansai Cup 2020, Since then there hadn’t been an official meet between these top teams but then Kansai Cup 2021 is back with a bang and Teams are fighting for top spot in the league and no team have qualified for semis so far!
So the clash between these two teams would be promisingly interesting as both teams will be looking for a win ROT being lost in the finals they have that lost essence and would definitely going to give a good fight and HAWKS yet to score points in 2021 looking for a win. This will be a feast to the Cricket fans in Kansai which would be a close battle.
Coming to the performance of ROT in 2021 we have started with a loss with a small margin but then ROT know how important and desperately they need the Champions title this year and came back with a positive attitude and won two matches in a row and looking to continue the winning streak.
The ultimate goal for 2021 is to become the champions of Kansai Cup 2021 and to qualify for National finals that takes place in Tokyo and show the potential we have got.
Also ROT has a plans of establishing an academy in the near or distant future and promoting Cricket in Kansai region by forming an young team.
All these things wouldn’t happen without the support so we had to thank our Sponsors AUTOLOGISTICS JAPAN not only financially they had supported us morally too which helped us to achieve the success. We hope for their continuous support.
We specially like to thanks to our financial and moral supporters and also great Ex.cricketer
Mr. Gurumit Singh, CEO of AUTOLOGISTICS JAPAN.
Mr. Vinod K Malkani, New World Company ltd.
Without them we wouldn’t have achieved to this extent.
We also appreciate the hard work doing by JCA, KCA and Kaizuka for their motive to continuously improve and produce a quality cricket in Japan with the resources they have.

On a cloudy day ROT team were invited by Kyoto Legends team to place a practice match in Ono, Hyogo.

In absence of Captain, Vice captain, wicket-keeper, both Openers and leading run scorer for ROT in Japan cup, ROT agreed to play a practice match with 6 non ROT players on the day.

On a very short ground and a wet pitch, mat was not fit enough for the ball to bounce and lack of pace after an impact, the conditions were poor on a note.

Kyoto legends won the toss and elected to bat.

1st innings:
Kyoto legends started off the mark with a boundary for an inexperienced lineup of ROT bowlers,
both openers were good enough and played fearlessly with the bat.
They have produced some class cricket shots on the field which was a treat to watch and any new bowlers couldn't withstand their opening pair
that have added a record partnership of 226 runs in just 15 overs and took away the game
but then the veteran Kunwar Mahender had started his 1st bowl with a bowled to send back the opener in form,
and in the last 5 overs ROT gave away 41 runs which was a 269-3 at the end of the innings
which was a huge target and looked like impossible to chase the target of 270.

2nd innings:
Having a huge target ahead of ROT batsmen with 13.5 runs required per over and an
inexperienced batting lineup both veterans Kunwar Mahender and Sunny Singh decided to
open an innings with the bat and started steadily, knowing the required run rate
both openers showed the experience they had and proved why they are called as veterans,
without throwing away the wicket the duo produced some great cricketing shots with ball
flying on the top of the fielders out of the park, infact new ball had to be introduced
when Kunwar Mahender had hit a huge six where the ball was invisible after it got into downhill.
This duo had made scoreboard run with 85 for no loss in just 5 overs Kunwar Mahender(49*)
in just 15 balls and Sunny Singh (25*)16, the treat was just came to an end due to an interruption
of rain which made further play not possible and resulted ROT win by a huge margin of 45 runs
by DL method.

Special thanks to Kunwar Mahender, Rahul Kumar and Sunny Bandara for organizing match.

Last but not the least a special thanks to AUTOLOGISTICS JAPAN LTD. for having a faith in us
and for the continuous support.
