1: Where you from?
1:どこの出身？
Long Jetty on the central coast of NSW, around here we have some great little reefs and some pristine beaches, my local is a great little right hand reef setup which on the right swell produces perfect waves for logs and when the swell gets a little bigger you can ride pretty much anything, there are always banks somewhere, and its easy to find empty uncrowded waves to enjoy
オーストラリアの東海岸、ロングジェティー（NSW)だよ。この近辺には幾つかのリーフブレイクと綺麗なビーチがあるよ。僕のホームポイントはライトハンドのリーフポイントで波はかなりいいよ。特に小さめのスウェルの時にはロングボードにパーフェクトな波が割れるし、ちょっと大きくなればどんな波でも楽しめる本当にいい波だよ。
ここら辺はいつもどこかにバンクがあってコンディションのいい空いてる波をすぐに見つけられるよ。

2: What made you into shape?
どうしてシェイプ始めたの？
I have been riding alternate shapes of boards for a long time, but it got to a stage where there was no shapers in our area that were making what myself and friends wanted, so after speaking to a few differnent shapers I got a few blanks and with the guidance of an old friend who had been shaping and glassing since the 60's I started making boards, the first one I made was a stubby hull, it went unreal, a guy borrowed it at the beach one day came in and offered to buy it, and I just kept going from there trying different technics and making everything from finless alaias to 10'4 logs after a trip north to noosa I caught up with tom Wegener he had a few nice things to say about one of my midlenght hulls and that was it instead of just making boards for my friends and family I started Imprint surfboards
Now i have a nice little group of team riders, that each have there own unique style and preference in board styles so i am always making something different to suit each guy.
in the last 3 years 2 of my team have won the crescent head comp one guy won the opens 2 years ago and this year a young guy won the u18's which is great considering the amount of talent that enters this comp each year.
僕自身、いろんな板をずっと乗り変えてきたんだけど、ある時、板を探してて、僕や僕の友達が乗りたい板を削れるシェーパーがこのエリアにはいないって気づいたんだ。それから、数人のシェーパーと話をして、初めてのブランクスを手に入れて、６０年代からずっと板を削ってる人に教えてもらいながらシェイプを始めたんだよ。
初めて削った板はHull Stubby。シェイプを教えてくれた人に貸したら、海から上がってくるなり僕に『この板売ってよ！調子いい！』って言われたくらいいい出来栄えに上がって、そこからがはじまり。とにかくいろんなテクニックやスタイルを削るようになったんだ。とにかくいろいろ、フィンレスのアライアから１０’６”のロングまで。
クイーンズランドのヌーサ（ロングで有名なポイントブレイクのある町）でトムワグナー（アライアを削るレジェンドシェイパー）と会って、自分の板にとてもポジティブなコメントもらっことをきっかけに、友達や家族に削るだけじゃなくてもっといろんな人に自分の板を乗ってもらいたいって思うようになってImprint Surfboardsが誕生したんだよ。
ここ数年はImprintのティームも抱えるまでになったよ。どのライダーもとても個性があって各自のパフォーマンスにもスタイルがあるんだけど、彼ら１人１人にあった板を削ることをいつも心がけてるよ。
ここ３年は２人のティームライダーがクレセントヘッズ（NSWのロングのメッカ）で行われる大会でとてもいい成績を出してくれてるよ。例えば２年前、ロングのオープンクラスで１人のライダーが優勝。それと、今年はアンダー１８（１８歳以下のクラス）で強豪を抑えて見事優勝。彼らも含めrティームライダーはいつも僕にとてもいいフィードバックをくれるよ。

4: How long do you surf?
どのくらいサーフィンしてるの？

i started bodyboarding when I was 11, then when I was 13 my uncle gave me a old shortboard, and just kept going from there I rode shortboards exclusively until 1998 when I was 17 I was loaned and 9'4 mctavish and that was it, I sold my shortboard and bought my first longboard it was also a 9'4, and from there me and my friends started to dapple in all different types of shapes, logs, old mals, timber bellyboards, handplanes, surfmats, mini simmons, quads, hulls, singlefin mid lengths, stubbys, finless boards and alaias, just about everything we could get our hands on, I am now 35 and always looking for new things to ride, I am lucky to have a few good friends some of which shape boards aswell so we are always bouncing ideas and theory's on board design and just being in the water and being stoked
１１歳の時にボディーボードを始めたんだ。それから１３歳の時におじさんがお古のショートボードくれて、１９９８年までショートを乗り続けてたんだけど１７歳の時、借りた９’４”のマクタヴィッシュ（レノックスのレジェンドシェイパー）の板を乗った時に全てが変わったよ。持ってたショートボードを売ってすぐにロングを手に入れたんだ。それも９’４”だったね。それから僕と僕の友達はとにかくいろんな板に乗り出した。
アライア、ログ、フィンレス、サーフマット、ミニシモンズ、クゥアッド、フルズ、シングルフィン、ミッドレングスのマル。とにかくなんでも乗ったよ。今僕は３５歳になったけど、今も変わらず新しいものにはとても興味があるし、学ぼうといつも前向きだよ。とにかく、いろんなものをトライして、波乗りを常に楽しく新鮮にストークできる感覚を忘れたくないからね。

日本の人たちへのメッセージはある？シェイプをするときにこだわってることとか？

i am absolutely stoked to make boards, the joy and happiness i get from seeing other people enjoying my handshaped boards, i use all first grade materials, and a lot of heart and soul goes into each board, i am not a big production company, i like to concentrate on each order i get and make sure the quality of my boards is first class.
とにかく板を削るのが大好きだよ。僕の削った板を乗って楽しんでくれてるサーファーを見ると本当に楽しいし、幸せな気持ちになるんだ。使ってる素材も常にトップクオリティーのものを使用してるよ。一本一本、愛情込めて大事に作ってるよ。
僕は大きな大量生産できる工場じゃないけど、だからこそ、オーダー１本１本本当に集中してオーダーしてくれた人にちゃんとファーストクラスのクオリティーを提供できるよう心がけてるよ。
