Emmanuel Wanyonyi 🇰🇪 is set to dominate 800m race at 2024 Belgrade World Athletics Cross-Country Championship next week

19-year old Wanyonyi’s first shot into the limelight was when he brought the roof down with an energetic performance at the 2021 U20 World Athletics Championships at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi. He clocked a time of 1:43.76 – a championship record – to win gold at the event.

Wanyonyi’s first major senior championship was when he missed a podium finish, finishing fourth at the 2022 World Championships in Oregon. He tells us that the race, which was won by compatriot Emmanuel Korir, taught him what it takes to win on such a big stage.

Emmanuel Wanyonyi, a rising star in Kenyan athletics, has achieved significant success in a short period. Here's a list of some of his notable victories:

In 2023 Wanyonyi won the World Athletics Championships: Gold medal in the 800 meters
He later proceeded to Wanda Diamond League where he was number one Winner in Rabat, Paris, Xiamen, and Eugene (final) - He also secured the overall Diamond League title in the 800 meters.

2024:

In this year in 2024 he has already won the Sirikwa Classic Cross-country 2km race.

Emmanuel Wanyonyi's all eyes are fixed at this year's Paris Olympics whereby he is expecting to get a gold medal. As a result, he will just be using 2024 Belgrade World Athletics Cross-Country Championship next week as a preparation for the Paris Olympics trying out new track tactics of breaking the 800m world record
