The passing on of Prof. Ngùgì Wa Thiong’o has orphaned Africa; we, the students of literature, have borne it all.
Prof. Ngùgì was one in many; a mentor, a teacher, a prolific writer, a poet, an honest man, and a great political animal.
Ngùgì’s great works of literature among them; The River Between, Weep Not Child, A Grain of Wheat, I Will Marry When I Want, Devil on the Cross, Decolonizing the Mind, Wizard of the Crow, Matigari, Dreams in the Time of War, among others have created an original African desire, identity and the African literary philosophy.
If a literary genius ever lived who has inspired my world of literary language and communication, may it be the use of symbolism, figurative language, metaphors, metonymy, poetry, that genius is Prof. Ngùgì Wa Thiong’o.
The African literary champion never shied from writing in his native language and his quest to tell the African story through the African lens. This inspiration lives on through works like Matigari, Ngahìka Ndeenda, Caitaani Mutharaba-Inì among others, true to African heroism.
I have enjoyed reading his works among them; Caitani Mutharaba-ini, Maitu Njugira, Ngahika Ndeenda, Mùrogi Wa Kagogo, and Petals of Blood.
His inspiration to me went beyond the classroom into my political world; when I left office late last year, I read and re-read his book, ‘A Grain of Wheat’. His Words, “…then nobody noticed it; but looking back, we can see that waiyaki’s blood contained within it a seed, a grain, which gave birth to a movement…”
May Prof. Ngugi wa Thiong’o rest in peace. My sympathies to his family.

A giant 🚢 ship's engine broke down and no one could repair it, so they hired a Mechanical Engineer with over 30 years of experience. ⚙️
He inspected the engine very carefully, from top to bottom. After seeing everything, the engineer unloaded his bag and pulled out a small hammer.
He knocked something gently. Soon, the engine came to life again. The engine has been fixed!
A week later the engineer mentioned to the ship owner that the total cost of repairing the giant ship was $20,000. 💰
"What?!" said the owner. “You did almost nothing. Give us a detailed bill."
The Engineer replied him “The answer is simple:”
Tap with a hammer: $2
Know where to knock and how much to knock: $19,998. 💰
The importance of appreciating one's expertise and experience...🙌 because those are the results of struggles, experiments and even tears..😭💪
🕒 If I do a job in 30 minutes ⏰ it's because I spent 20 years 📚 learning how to do that in 30 minutes. You owe me for the years, not the minutes. 💪

The lion says, "no matter the economy of the jungle, I can never eat grass. It is not pride; it is just who I am". 'Grass' here represents what is substandard. But you ask, "what if the lion doesn't get any animal to eat?" Well, to the lion he would rather die with integrity than live in mediocrity. Integrity is a very serious and high thing. Choose integrity over mediocrity. In fact, either way involves some suffering. In one case, you suffer to gain and in the other case, you gain to suffer. The lion knows who he is and what he stands for and that's why he is able to maintain his integrity. He is like an eagle. You will never find eagles eating dead animals. Vultures descend to that level because they have no standard. In the same way, without defining our values and principles we will fall for any temptations. Be a lion. Be upright!

NABONGO MAKOKHA MUMIA
He was the son of Nabongo Shiundu, he was born after his mother ( Queen Wamanya) had several miscarriages. According to the Wanga culture, a child born under such circumstances was to be thrown by the roadside and someone was to pick him up. This was done so as to chase away the spirits of death. Such a child was named Makokha. He was named Mumia because it is an iteso woman that picked him on the roadside. In the old days, luhyas called the iteso Bamia. Mumia was born in 1849.
He was a skinny boy who looked weak. Later he did the unthinkable by first killing a lion and later a leopard. He took over the leadership of the Wanga Kingdom in 1888.
His reign witnessed great expansion of the Wanga Kingdom and he also cemented an alliance with the Maasai and the British.
Before his death, Nabongo Shiundu had prophecised about the coming of the white men and advised the Wanga people not to resist them. This informed Nabongo Mumia's choice of collaboration rather than resisting the British.
He also chose collaboration so as to wage war effectively against some sections of the Nandi, the Bukusu and Luos of Kager clan who threatened the integrity of his kingdom. Through collaborating, he got guns and a contingent of Baganda, Nubian and maasai warriors through which he conquered his enemies.
He died in 1949 and was burried in Mumias. He was given a state funeral by the colonial regime. Later, his remains were transferred to Eshiembekho in Matungu constituency, Kakamega county. The remains are hosted at the Nabongo Cultural centre.
His son Nabongo Sh*tawa succeeded him and ruled until his death in 1974. The current king of the Wanga Kingdom is Nabongo Peter Mumia Sh*tawa, the grandson of Nabongo Mumia.

Did you know that the legendary referee Pierluigi Collina:-
◾️ The only referee who had the VAR in his eyes.
◾️ This referee could communicate in 4 languages on the field (French, Spanish, Italian and English).
◾️ Before each game, he studied the game and the players of the teams he would lead and learned the names of the players.
◾️ During the 2002 World Cup final in Japan, Ronaldo gave him his shirt and the ball. The players from Brazil and Germany had congratulated him on his performance.
◾️ Footballers had huge respect for him and even fear, just by his presence. 🙌
◾️ He is also the only referee who has been on a video game jacket.
A true legend of the game, Pierluigi Collina! 🙌🇮🇹
