Africa has waited more than 100 years for this.
The Chess Olympiad could finally be hosted in Africa in 2032, according to FIDE. However, it still needs to prove it can financially and logistically deliver one of the biggest events in global chess.
Africa is producing elite players, thriving local communities, and some of the fastest-growing chess scenes. Yet historically, chessβs biggest events have remained concentrated in Europe, North America, and more recently Asia.
Could elite chess truly go global?
