DBA Africa - African Academy of the Year. It has a nice ring to it.

We are pleased to announce that we were named the academy of the year at the African Global Awards 2026. This one hits differently. Grassroots. Youth. Sport. Girls in the game. Scholarships. Coaches growing the game every day…

This is for every player, every coach, every dream that refuses to stay small. And for every parent or guardian who allowed their child the opportunity.

We’re just getting started.

Yesterday’s GL5KM monthly run in Loresho saw our largest turnout of over 50 runners, but the highlight was much more personal.

Meet Daniel. By night, Daniel is a security guard in Loresho. By day, he is an athlete with a very impressive 2:19 marathon personal best. Since a chance conversation with one of our runners last year, he has religiously shown up and religiously shown us how to make a 15min 5km look effortless!

Every month, the GL5KM runners donate 500KSh that feeds into the Athletics Race Fund (ARF) which exists to bridge the gap between raw talent and race opportunities.

Last night Daniel shared his dream of one day competing in the Lewa Marathon, a hilly course perfectly suited to his strengths. While he had saved for the travel logistics, the entry fee remained out of reach, so he’d given up this year’s event.

Thanks to our runner’s contribute, we decided to use this month’s donations to sponsor Daniel’s entry into the Lewa Marathon 2026.

This is the heart of our GL5KM community, supporting one of our own as he pursues greatness. This is why we run.

Shirlyn Ingaso’s journey is taking shape in a powerful way.

Through dedication, consistent growth, and the right support system, she has earned her place in the Queens squad set to play in the Women’s Kenya Cup final.

Her story reflects what happens when talent is nurtured with structure, discipline, and opportunity. The lessons shared at the DBA Western Girls Holiday Festival, balancing school, staying committed, and trusting the process, are already visible in her progress.

This is what development looks like when it’s done right.

The Eldoret City Marathon returns on 26th April, bringing together athletes ready to compete on one of the biggest stages in African athletics.

Through the Kevin McCool Memorial Fund and the Athletics Race Fund (ARF), DBA Africa has supported over 10 athletes with race entries removing financial barriers and allowing them to focus fully on performance.

From Purity Kalekye Mutui and Patrick Koech to Daniel Kibiwott and Wilson Kiprop Tuitoek, this team represents discipline, preparation, and opportunity in action.

Beyond the race, the event also carries a strong commitment to environmental conservation, with a tree-planting initiative led by athletes and legends of the sport.

We stand with our athletes as they take on the streets of Eldoret.
