In this wild, unforgiving corner of the country, where heat, distance and harsh conditions test them daily, it is easy to think that duty is what binds them together.

The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) team at Sibiloi National Park, in partnership with Archipelagus, recently facilitated a conservation exposure tour for the Dasanach community from Illeret to Westgate Conservancy in Samburu East.

The community engaged with Westgate Conservancy members on four key areas:
โœ”๏ธ Wildlife conservation and tourism โ€” linking conservation, community, commerce and culture
โœ”๏ธ Community development
โœ”๏ธ Rangeland management
โœ”๏ธ Peace and security

The exchange underscores the power of partnerships and collaboration in advancing inclusive, community-centred conservation, strengthening local ownership and supporting sustainable development.

The Sibiloi National Park team, led by Warden-in-Charge Mr. Shariff Ahmed Mohamud, facilitated a community exposure tour for members of the Dasanaach community from Illeret to Samburu County.

The team proceeded to Milgis Trust, where participants gained valuable insights into community-led conservation, sustainable livelihoods and innovative partnership models that can strengthen conservation outcomes.

The exposure tour is being undertaken through a partnership with Archipelagus, reinforcing the importance of collaboration in advancing inclusive, community-centred conservation and sustainable development.

Together, we connect communities, share knowledge and build stronger partnerships for a future where wildlife, people and nature thrive together.

Sometimes, conservation begins not with a rescue vehicle or a uniform, but with a quiet act of compassion.

In Manyatta Durte Community, North Horr Sub-County, a tiny gazelle calf was orphaned after her mother was killed by predators. Vulnerable and frightened, she had no one to care for her.

But the community did not turn away.

They fed her, sheltered her and watched over her, understanding that though she was wild, her life was worth saving.
Then they called the KWS Sibiloi teamโ€”because they understood that she belonged not in captivity, but back in the wild.

This is the quiet power of conservation. When compassion meets action, lives are saved.
