August is a special month for the Catholic Women Association (CWA) and devotees of St. Monica across the Diocese of Malindi—a time of welcoming new members and renewing commitment to faith and the Association

Updates from Msabaha Parish:

The women of Msabaha Parish gathered at Msabaha to celebrate the feast of their patron, St. Monica, through the Holy Mass.

The Holy Mass was celebrated by the Parish Priest, Fr. Joshua. Preset with the women was with Sr. Joyce. It was a joyful occasion for the members of CWA.

Inspired by the example of St. Monica—a woman of prayer, perseverance and steadfast faith—the CWA women of Msabaha continue to be witnesses of Christ and instruments of evangelization in their families, communities and the Church.

CWA LAMU CELEBRATES THE FEAST OF ST. MONICA

As we journey through August with the Catholic Women Association (CWA) praying for the intercession of St. Monica in the Diocese of Malindi, we celebrate a season of welcoming new members into CWA and renewing commitment to the faith and to the Association.

Yesterday, on the Feast of St. Monica, CWA Lamu Parish gathered for Holy Mass presided over by Rev. Fr. John Kimeu, during which members renewed their vows and commitment to the association.

In his homily, Fr. John drew inspiration from the virtues of St. Monica, particularly her perseverance in prayer, steadfast faith and dedication to her family. He encouraged the women of CWA Lamu to remain strong in prayer and to make their daily lives a witness of the Gospel.

He also challenged them to continue their mission of evangelization by reaching out and bringing more Catholic women into the Church, especially on Lamu Island, where they courageously live out their faith amidst the challenges of being surrounded by a different religious faith.

May the example and intercession of St. Monica strengthen our Catholic women to remain women of prayer, faith and mission.

The KCCB, Evidence and Beyond, and representatives from the Communication, Safeguarding and Education Commissions ( Catholic Diocese of Malindi), are taking part in a Sitawi+ Programme M&E Framework Co-Creation Workshop.

The workshop brings together Prudence from the Communication Commission, George from Safeguarding, and Fr. Dennis from the Education Commission, together with KCCB and Evidence and Beyond.

The team is looking at how the Sitawi+ Programme is helping to reduce violence against students in Catholic schools in Kenya (Malindi).

The main question being discussed is: How can we clearly measure and show the changes the programme is making?

Participants are discussing the changes they want to see, how they can know if these changes are happening, what information should be collected, and who should collect it.

The workshop also gives participants a chance to share their experiences and identify simple and useful ways to measure progress. They are also looking at information that can show whether Catholic schools are becoming safer for students.

Through this teamwork, KCCB, Evidence and Beyond, and the different commissions are working to create a practical M&E (Monitoring and Evaluation) framework. The framework will help them learn from the programme, make better decisions, measure progress, and strengthen efforts to create safer schools for students across Kenya. (Malindi)

Strengthening Peace and Social Cohesion through Partnership.

Today, at the Bishop’s Office at the Pastoral Centre, the Catholic Diocese of Malindi formalised an important partnership with the Harmony Institute through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), signed by Most Rev. Bishop Willybard Lagho.

Under this partnership, the Harmony Institute will work closely with the CIRDE Commission of the Catholic Diocese of Malindi to promote social cohesion, peaceful coexistence, and community-based conflict resolution through dialogue.

The collaboration will also focus on capacity building and multi-stakeholder initiatives aimed at empowering communities to prevent and address conflicts, strengthen peaceful relationships, and build more resilient and cohesive communities.
Present during the signing ceremony were Dr. Erkam Tashkyn, Director of the Harmony Institute, together with Mr. Salim and Mr. Haroun from the Institute.

The CIRDE Commission was represented by Fr. Fidel Machara, Richard Mutinda, and Fr. Martine Karigu.

This partnership marks an important step towards strengthening dialogue, peacebuilding, and community-led approaches to conflict resolution across the Diocese of Malindi.

Mission for Young People

The Young Catholic Adults (YCA) of St. Francis Xavier Parish, Kisumu Ndogo, are making a bold step to bring young people together around Malindi and beyond, helping them rediscover their important role in the Church’s mission of evangelisation.

Following their recent visit to the Archdiocese of Mombasa, the YCA went out this weekend to St. Augustine Mission Station, Naziwani, to accompany the community and oversee the establishment of a YCA group there.

This is more than a gathering—it is a missionary movement that seeks to inspire young people to encounter Christ, build Christian communities and become joyful witnesses of the Gospel.

May God bless the YCA of St. Francis Xavier Parish, Kisumu Ndogo, as they continue to reach out, accompany and empower young people for mission.

72 Women Welcomed into C.W.A. in Lamu Deaner

Seventy-two women were formally welcomed into the Catholic Women Association (C.W.A.) St. Monica Group on 22 August 2026 at Bakanja Secondary School, Mpeketoni Parish, Lamu Deanery. More than 500 women also renewed their C.W.A. promises.

The celebration brought together women from five parishes: Hongwe, Mpeketoni, Baharini, Hindi and Muhamarani. The women had completed a three-day spiritual seminar, which culminated in Holy Mass celebrated by Fr. Daniel Monima, assisted by C.W.A. Chaplain Fr. Thomas, who also preached.

The celebration marked an important step in strengthening women’s participation in the mission, evangelisation and service of the Church.

Congratulations to the 72 newly welcomed members and all those who renewed their promises.
