Some of our team members had the opportunity to participate in a beach clean-up activity organized by CWID at Nyali Beach, in collaboration with the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), community organizations, youth groups and beach operators. The event aimed to raise awareness on climate action and the urgent need to preserve our coastal environment by reducing plastic pollution and promoting collective responsibility for cleaner, safer beaches.

After three months of intensive training and skills development, the Recovery Waves Initiative Cohort 1 successfully graduated from the program. It was an honor to witness 25 participants benefit from mentorship programs and 10 participants complete swimming sessions. With the support of Swahilipot Hub Foundation, this journey has been impactful. Now, the participants will advance to vocational training at Vision Empowerment Training Institute, pursuing careers in hospitality and maritime. This milestone marks a transformative step toward economic empowerment and sustainable livelihoods.

We successfully conducted a practical Lifesaving Training session, equipping participants with essential water safety skills, rescue techniques and emergency response knowledge. The hands-on training enhanced their confidence in handling water-related emergencies, reinforcing the importance of drowning prevention and lifesaving measures. This session was a vital step toward promoting water safety and community resilience.

We conducted our final mentorship session for the Recovery Waves Initiative, focusing on career exploration and resume building. The session provided participants with essential skills to navigate career opportunities, create professional resumes and build confidence for the job market. It was a valuable step toward empowerment and economic resilience.

The conversation focused on refining our business strategy, enhancing our offerings in swimming training, water safety and aquatic tourism and exploring potential collaborations to expand our impact in the community.

Throwback Friday – Reflecting on an inspiring moment when some of our participants engaged in a pitching exercise activity through the GOYN Changemakers Academy. This opportunity allowed them to present their innovative ideas, develop their communication skills and gain valuable insights into entrepreneurship and leadership. The experience boosted their confidence, encouraged creative thinking and promoted a spirit of collaboration. Through such initiatives, Shark Swimming Club continues to empower young changemakers, equipping them with essential skills for personal and professional growth. Our participants actively engaged in the Financial Literacy discussion, gaining practical skills in budgeting, saving and responsible financial planning. The session emphasized the importance of financial independence, goal setting and smart investment strategies. Through interactive discussions and real-life scenarios, they explored income management, debt prevention and entrepreneurship. Participants shared personal experiences and learned actionable strategies to enhance their financial well-being. By the end of the session, they felt more confident in managing their finances, making informed decisions and planning for long-term sustainability. This session promoted financial empowerment, equipping them with the tools needed to build a stable and secure future.

The BLUEBIZ session at Bombolulu Workshop Culture Center, where we explored the Blue Economy's environmental impacts, opportunities, risks and the role of business leaders in sustainable development. The session emphasized balancing economic growth with marine conservation. Our participants showcased innovative business ideas, demonstrating creativity in leveraging marine resources sustainably. Discussions covered sustainable tourism, fisheries, aquaculture and conservation, highlighting ways to drive responsible economic activities.
