OFFICIAL: Man Utd captain Bruno Fernandes named Premier League Player of the Season
a day ago / autty
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has won the Premier League's Player of the Season award for 2025-26.

Fernandes has enjoyed an exceptional individual campaign for the Red Devils, registering 20 assists with one Premier League game still to go.

He has tied the all-time single-season record, matching Thierry Henry in 2002-03 and Kevin De Bruyne in 2019-20, and can surpass them outright away at Brighton on Sunday.

The Portugal international has also scored eight goals, with his 28 goal contributions overall only being bettered by Erling Haaland's 35 (27 goals, eight assists).

Fernandes' 132 chances created are at least 58 more than any other player, with Liverpool's Dominik Szoboszlai a distant second on 74.

He has created 95 of those chances from open play, putting him well clear of second-placed Jeremy Doku (59), while his 37 chances created from set-pieces are tied with Szoboszlai for the most of any player.

Fernandes is the first United player to land the award since Nemanja Vidic did so in 2010-11, which was the fifth consecutive campaign in which a Red Devils player had landed the prize (also Cristiano Ronaldo in 2006-07 and 2007-08, Vidic in 2008-09 and Wayne Rooney in 2009-10).

The seven different players to win the award while representing United (also Peter Schmeical in 1995-96, Dwight Yorke in 1998-99 and Ruud van Nistelrooy in 2002-03) are a competition record, as are the nine total awards won by players while at Old Trafford.

Fernandes beat out competition from title-winning Arsenal trio Gabriel Magalhaes, David Raya and Declan Rice, Manchester City pair Haaland and Antoine Semenyo, Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White and Brentford striker Igor Thiago.

United are guaranteed to finish third regardless of the result of Sunday's meeting with Brighton, having confirmed Michael Carrick as their permanent head coach on Friday.

Man United is facing a defensive crisis for Chelsea clash

Manchester United are facing a defensive crisis ahead of their trip to Chelsea with only one fit senior centre-back in their travelling squad.

Head coach Michael Carrick will be without Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martínez and Matthijs de Ligt at Stamford Bridge on Saturday because of suspension and injury.

Man United's Carrick 'disappointed' with ref calls

Maguire banned vs. Chelsea as FA charge upheld

VAR review: Why Martínez was always getting a red card for hair pull

Leny Yoro has started the last six games, but the Frenchman was not part of the squad, which travelled to London on Friday afternoon.

If Yoro is ruled out, it would leave 19-year-old Ayden Heaven as the only fit central defender available to Carrick against Chelsea.

Heaven hasn't started a game since the 2-2 draw with Burnley in January.

United declined to comment on Yoro's potential absence when approached by ESPN on Friday.

Maguire is unavailable after he was hit with an extra one-game ban after admitting an FA charge of improper conduct as he left the pitch following his red card at Bournemouth in March.

Martínez is set to serve a three-game suspension after he was sent off for violent conduct in the 2-1 defeat against Leeds United on Monday.

De Ligt, meanwhile, hasn't featured since November because of a back problem.

Kobbie Mainoo is set to return against Chelsea after he missed the defeat to Leeds with a minor injury.

Reported: Roma has negotiated with Zirkzee's agent. He accepts a salary cut

Roma has already negotiated with Zirkzee's agent, and Milan is also keeping an eye on it.

It is reported that Zirkzee has not been doing well under Amorim's management, with little playing time. With his career at a standstill, the Dutch forward has informed his team that he hopes to revive his career through a loan move in January.
While playing for Bologna Club under the coaching of Motta, Zirkzee still maintained a high reputation in Serie A, while Roma, under the coaching of Gasperini, hopes to strengthen their offensive lineup.
The Club of Rome has been very active in this matter and has already initiated negotiations with Zirkzee's agent regarding the player's salary. The player has indicated willingness to reduce some of his salary demands to revive his career.
Milan's coaching staff is also interested in Zirkzee's abilities. They are also keeping an eye on his movements and may join the competition in the next transfer window.

Man Utd set out two transfer rules as Amorim and Jason Wilcox agreement reached

Manchester United director of football Jason Wilcox has been speaking about the club's transfer business and revealed the thinking behind deals

Jason Wilcox has confirmed Manchester United will make further investment into their playing squad and revealed the two transfer rules the club now follows. The Red Devils spent big during the summer transfer window, bringing in an entirely new front line and anointing a new first-choice goalkeeper.

The most high-profile arrivals were Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko, while Senne Lammens arrived from Royal Antwerp on deadline day. After a slow start to the season, United have turned a corner under Ruben Amorim of late, winning their last three matches in the Premier League to leap to sixth in the table.

And Wilcox has revealed that United will make further investment to challenge for major honours but warned that new players will only be recruited who are the right character and add something different. He said: “Yeah the guys have settled in really, really quickly. I think especially when you look at Matheus and Bryan, they have played in the Premier League and they have lived in England, so there is a quicker transition.

“I think for Benji and Senne, you look at their transition and they have transitioned really well. We are really pleased. They are two young players, two for the future, but they have settled in amazingly well.

“They are all good guys, even from last summer's window, they are top professionals, top players and we are really optimistic we are going in the right direction.

“We have a clear plan. I am sure there are going to be bumps in the road but we have just got to make sure we stay calm irrespective of the noise outside.

“I see the intensity, I am at training every day, I see the way that they train, the way they apply themselves, the way they communicate and get on with each other.
