South Sudan’s Ministry of Petroleum Plans Two New Oil Refineries to Cut Fuel Imports.
The ministry of Petroleum is planning to construct two new oil refineries in a major move aimed at reducing the country’s dependence on imported fuel.
According to Petroleum Undersecretary Dr. Santino Ayuel Longar‚ the planned refineries will have a combined capacity of 60‚000 barrels per day‚ with projects expected in Tharjiath‚ Unity State, Thiangrial in the Melut area of Upper Nile State and Pagak as well.
Speaking about the plans‚ Dr. Longar said: “If this refinery can be built. That means we’ll not be importing refined fuel products to South Sudan. We’ll be using our own refineries to supply fuel to various retailers across the country.”
The Tharjiath refinery is expected to begin with a capacity of 30‚000 barrels per day‚ with plans for expansion. If successfully implemented‚ the projects could boost local fuel production‚ reduce reliance on imports and potentially ease pressure on fuel prices.
