Football is a game full of passion and emotion, and yet it is also big business. As the interview with Mr. Magoma Okello has highlighted, Kenyan football needs to make important changes in order to progress.
Football Administration in Kenya has suffered for many years due to the appointment of unqualified personnel in leadership positions within football clubs and associations. Many of those placed in charge of running clubs and organizing leagues have no professional training or experience in football management. Overall, modern football needs administrators who can apply strategic business practices.
Kenyan Football needs to recognize the importance of psychology in optimizing performance and player wellbeing. Teams should have dedicated sports psychologists on staff. Coaches and managers need better training in identifying signs of emotional distress. We must create an environment where seeking psychological help is not stigmatized. Our players' mental health and careers depend on it. The lack of football psychologists is badly hurting Kenyan's next generation of football stars. We can no longer downplay the significance of psychology in sports.
Football is not just a sport, it is also big business and entertainment. The football industry generates billions in revenue each year. Football clubs are brands with huge fanbases that spend lots of money on merchandise, tickets, TV packages and more. Sponsors also pay massive amounts to partner with successful football clubs and events.
Football Administration needs an overhaul with business-minded professionals at the helm. Instead of relying on ex-players and coaches, football authorities must hire qualified administrators who can manage the commercial aspects of running successful clubs and leagues.
