Not all pain is “just pain” sometimes it’s a sign.
Sickle Cell Disease shows up differently in everyone, but knowing the signs can save a life:
Severe body pain (especially bones & joints)
Extreme tiredness
Swollen hands or feet
Frequent infections
Shortness of breath
Listen to the body. Notice the changes. Act early.
Because awareness is the first step to care.

Last week, a two-week capacity-building program was held in Kisumu County for Health Care Promoters (HCPs) to strengthen care for people living with Sickle Cell Disease.
The program was a joint effort by the Ministry of Health Kenya, Kisumu County Government, Sickle Cell Federation of Kenya and Children Sickle Cell Foundation, with support from Foundation Pierre Fabre.
A total of 30 HCPs were trained to improve awareness, early detection and long-term management of SCD.
The initiative also supports Katito Sub-County Hospital, which serves over 200 patients and has provided specialized sickle cell care since 2022. A Gazelle screening machine was handed over to improve testing and early diagnosis.
This program reflects strong collaboration aimed at improving sickle cell care and supporting affected communities in Kisumu County.

Three powerful weeks. One mission: transform sickle cell care in Nairobi County.

On April 2nd, the Children Sickle Cell Foundation engaged 30 County CHMTs to shape a roadmap for better care and identify a public facility to champion sickle cell services, with support from the Ministry of Health and Nairobi County Government.

From April 8th–10th, healthcare providers were trained, strengthening both clinical skills and compassionate care. From April 15th–17th, Community Health Promoters were empowered to lead awareness and prevention efforts in their communities.

With participants from Kibra, Kawangware and Kangemi, real impact is already being felt.

Nairobi County is now ready to run a responsive, life-changing sickle cell clinic.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Fondation Pierre Fabre for their support through the KeTan Project. Together, we are building hope, dignity and a better future for every sickle cell warrior.
