Arsenal have beaten Manchester City only once since Pep Guardiola arrived in England. That was in April 2017, in a pulsating FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.

The Gunners went on to win the competition that year, beating Chelsea 2-1 to claim the final trophy of the Arsene Wenger era.

But that last-four success over a side who were on the cusp of dominating the English game was special. It was hard-fought, dogged and required plenty of resilience, not always traits associated with Wenger’s team.

Since then, though, Arsenal have lost six successive games against City. The results look like this - 3-1, 3-0, 3-0, 2-0, 3-1 and 3-0. Pretty emphatic, then. That’s 17 goals conceded and just two scored.

And now, Manchester City wait.

Over the past three days, City's legal team have been presenting their case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, trying to overturn the sanctions given to them by UEFA for 'serious breaches' of the Financial Fair Play regulations.

If the appeal fails, City will be banned from the Champions League for two seasons and risk losing their best players, not to mention the impact it would have on the club's reputation
