If the lion is the king of Africa, there is no question that the elephant is the emperor…

An enormous bull coming to remind us just where we sit in the hierarchy of beings out here in the bush.

Our riding safaris in the Maasai Mara depend entirely upon the Maasai people permitting us access to their land. For nearly thirty years the Letuluo family have hosted our horses on their land and invited our guests into their homes to see the extraordinary way of life that, somehow, despite the unremitting pressure of modernity, survives amongst the Maasai people to this day.

These exquisite images were captured by Patrick on his safari with us this summer.

If you would like to come and join one of our mobile riding safaris and gain a glimpse into the lives of the Maasai people and their home, please email Charlotte at [email protected].

The past couple of weeks have provided much excitement at the riverside. The Nile
crocodiles that frequent the Mara’s muddy waters have proved too impatient to await the arrival of the Great Migration, when the river fills with the bloated bodies of drowned wildebeest providing a feast for the crocs. Twice now, we’ve stood on the banks of the river and watched the crocs catch and devour their prey - demonstrating their extraordinary stealth and immense power when performing their famous “death roll”. It’s rare for us to catch these moments and for that reason it’s been exciting to watch; brutal and dramatic.
