22개국 500여 명의 국내외 무예인들이 참가하는「2025 국제연무대회」가 9월 12일(금) 부터 14일(토) 까지 충주 탄금공원(구 세계무술공원) 메인무대에서 개최된다. 올해로 12회째를 맞이하는 이 대회는 세계무술연맹의 유네스코 ‘핏포라이프(Fit for Life)’ 글로벌스포츠동맹 가입을 기념하며, 무예와 인공지능(AI)의 융합이라는 새로운 시도를 선보인다.

시민 속으로 들어간 무예 축제
올해 가장 큰 변화는 행사장 이전이다. 지난해 까지 국제무예센터 다목적홀에서 열린 실내 대회를 개방형 공간인 탄금공원으로 옮겨, 시민 참여를 대폭 확대했다. 이를 통해 지역사회와의 상생을 강화하고, 보다 많은 관람객이 무예의 매력을 현장에서 체험할 수 있도록 했다.

특히 무예인과 관람객이 함께하는 TSG배틀과, 디제잉·댄스를 결합한 무예 배틀 , 전문심사단 외 시민심사단 30명 도입 등 새로운 형식의 참여형 프로그램이 도입돼, 축제 분위기를 한층 끌어올릴 예정이다.

AI와 무예의 혁신적 결합
대회의 부제는 “AI 그리고 무예”. 이름처럼 AI 기술이 행사 전반에 접목된다.

· AI-무예 캐릭터 체험: AI 체험장에서 참가자는 ‘나의 무예 캐릭터’를 직접 생성해 새로운 시각 경험을 누릴 수 있다.
· AI 주제가 제작: 대회 주제곡 ‘Fit for life with martial arts’는 AI로 작곡·제작됐다. ‘설레는 발걸음, 희망찬 노랫소리’로 시작해 무예를 통한 건강과 평화의 메시지를 담고 있다.
· AI 주제 포럼·디자인: 9월 12일(금) 국립중원문화연구소에서 열리는 ‘제1회 마샬아츠 포럼’에서는 미국, 필리핀, 한국의 무예 및 AI 전문가들이 ‘AI, 무예 그리고 지속발전’을 주제로 논의한다. 대회 포스터와 제작물에도 AI 디자인을 적용해 혁신적인 이미지를 선보인다.
풍성한 볼거리와 즐길 거리
대회 기간에는 1인·단체 연무경연, 무예·TSG배틀 등 다채로운 경연과 함께 다양한 부대행사가 이어진다.

푸드트럭 축제, 무예 추억 사진 이벤트, 무예 체력 인증, 시민 심사단 참여 등 관객이 직접 즐길 수 있는 프로그램이 마련된다.

특히 관람객을 대상으로 충주 수안보 온천수로 만든 선크림·수딩젤·화장품을 비롯해, 냉장고, 아이패드, 애플워치, 에어팟 맥스, 모니터, 손선풍기등 푸짐한 경품과 기념품이 준비되어 있다. 이들은 추첨과 현장 이벤트를 통해 증정되며, 행사를 찾는 이들에게 특별한 즐거움과 기념을 선사할 예정이다.

또한 해외 공연팀 불가리아 갈라쇼, 프랑스 드래곤 팀, 그리고 충주 어린이 택견단 등 화려한 무대가 축제의 열기를 더한다.

세계무술연맹 관계자는
“지난 무술축제와 국제연무대회를 통해 무예의 가치를 전 세계에 알리는 노력이, 이번 유네스코 핏포라이프 글로벌스포츠동맹 가입으로 결실을 맺게 되어 감격스럽다”며“AI와의 융합을 통해 무예의 새로운 미래를 제시하고, 모두가 함께 즐기는 화합의 장이 되길 기대한다”고 밝혔다.

The “International Martial Arts Contest 2025”, featuring over 500 martial artists from 22 countries, will be held on 12 September, Friday to 14 September, Saturday on the main stage of Tangeum Park (formerly World Martial Arts Park) in Chungju. Now in its 12th edition, this event celebrates the World Martial Arts Federation’s membership in UNESCO’s Fit for Life Global Sports Alliance and introduces a new experiment blending martial arts with artificial intelligence (AI).

A Martial Arts Festival for the Citizens

This year’s biggest change is the venue. The competition, previously held indoors at the International Martial Arts Center’s multipurpose hall, has moved to the open-air Tangeum Park, significantly increasing citizen participation. This shift strengthens community engagement and allows more spectators to experience the charm of martial arts firsthand.

New participatory programs are also being introduced, including the TSG Battle where martial artists and spectators compete together, martial arts battles combined with DJing and dance, and the addition of a 30-member citizen judging panel alongside professional judges, creating a more festive atmosphere.

Innovative Fusion of AI and Martial Arts

The event’s subtitle is “AI with Martial Arts,” reflecting the integration of AI technology throughout the festival.

AI Martial Arts Character Experience: Participants can create their own martial arts character at the AI Experience Zone, offering a new visual and interactive experience.

AI-Composed Theme Song: The official theme song, “Fit for Life with Martial Arts,” was composed using AI. Beginning with “exciting footsteps, hopeful melodies,” the song conveys messages of health and peace through martial arts.

AI Forum and Design: The 1st WoMAU Martial Arts Forum, held on 12 September, Friday at the National Jungwon Cultural Research Institute, brings together martial arts and AI experts from the U.S., the Philippines, and Korea to discuss “AI, Martial Arts, and Sustainable Development.” AI-generated designs are also applied to the event’s posters and promotional materials, showcasing innovative visuals.

Exciting Events and Attractions

During the festival, visitors can enjoy a variety of competitions, including individual and team martial arts performances, martial arts and TSG battles, and numerous side events. Programs for spectators include a food truck festival, martial arts-themed photo events, fitness challenges, and citizen judging participation.

Special giveaways and souvenirs will also be offered, including sunscreen, soothing gels, and cosmetics made with Suanbo hot spring water from Chungju, as well as refrigerators, iPads, Apple Watches, AirPods Max, monitors, and handheld fans. These will be distributed through raffles and on-site events, providing memorable experiences for festival-goers.

In addition, performances by international groups such as the Bulgaria Gala Show, the French Dragon Team, and the Chungju Children’s Taekkyeon Team will add spectacular entertainment to the festival.

A representative of the World Martial Arts Federation stated:
