🇱🇰♟️🏆 SRI LANKAN WOMEN SECURE CATEGORY C CHAMPIONSHIP WITH ONE ROUND TO SPARE!

A remarkable achievement for Sri Lankan chess at the 46th Chess Olympiad – Samarkand 2026!

The Sri Lankan Women’s Chess Team has officially secured 1st place in Category C, with one round still remaining in the Olympiad! 🇱🇰👏

After 10 rounds, Sri Lanka has collected an impressive 14 match points. The teams currently in second and third positions in Category C have 11 match points. As a maximum of only 2 match points can be earned in the final round, Sri Lanka has mathematically secured the Category C title even before playing the final round! 🏆

Their overall performance has been equally remarkable.

Sri Lanka entered the Olympiad as the 77th-seeded team, but after 10 rounds, our women’s team has climbed an incredible 59 places to 18th position overall! 🔥♟️

From 77th seed to 18th in the world standings - an outstanding performance on the biggest stage in team chess.

The Galle District Chess Association proudly congratulates all the players, captain, coaches, officials, and everyone who contributed to this wonderful achievement.

There is still one more battle ahead.

🇱🇰 All the very best to Team Sri Lanka for the final round!

Congratulations, Sri Lanka! You have made us proud! ❤️🇱🇰♟️
