In the 1980s, while I was coaching cricket at Maristella College in Negombo, Shantha Fonseka was a promising fast-bowling all-rounder in my Under-13 team and later represented the Sri Lanka Youth team. It’s a pleasure to see him now officiating as an umpire in the 106th “Hill Country Battle of the Blues.” Having already stood in LPL T20 and Sri Lanka A matches, I sincerely wish him the opportunity to umpire at the ICC level in the future as well.

Mahesh Gunathilaka, who played cricket with me for teams like St. Anthony’s College, Kandy Cricket Club, and Central Province Cricket Club, was the chief guest at the 106th "Hill Country Battle of the Blues." Mahesh was Sri Lanka’s first Test wicketkeeper and was also recognized as the best wicketkeeper in Asia. On that special day, my grandson had the privilege of taking a photo with him.

We're incredibly proud to announce that Thisara Ekanayake, a talented cricketer from St. Anthony's College, Katugastota, has been selected to represent the 18-member Sri Lanka U19 squad for the upcoming Sri Lanka U19 tour of England 2024! 🏏

Thisara trained at my Cricket Academy (GD Cricket Academy) for three years, starting in 2012, and was recognized as the Best All-Rounder during his time with us. His dedication, skill, and commitment have been truly inspiring.

I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Thisara on this prestigious achievement. Your journey from our academy to the national team is a testament to your hard work and determination. We know you'll shine on the international stage and make us all proud!
