සරුංගල් ලෝකයේ වෙනසක් ඇති කළ නිර්මාණයක්
සරුංගලයක් කියන්නේ නූලකින් අහසට යවන සරල සෙල්ලම් භාණ්ඩයක් විතරක් නෙවෙයි…
කාලයත් එක්ක සරුංගලය නිර්මාණශීලීත්වය, තාක්ෂණය සහ පියාසර කිරීම පිළිබඳ අත්හදා බැලීම් සඳහාත් යොදාගෙන තියෙනවා. 🪁✈️
ඒ ඉතිහාසයේ වැදගත් නිර්මාණයක් තමයි Dunford Flying Machine.
මෙය නිර්මාණය කළේ Don Dunford, Royal Air Force හි ඉංජිනේරු අංශයේ Squadron Leaderවරයෙකු ලෙස සේවය කළ පුද්ගලයෙක්.
Don Dunford 1960 දශකයේ සිට මෙම නිර්මාණය සංවර්ධනය කරමින් වසර 15කට ආසන්න කාලයක් අත්හදා බැලීම් සිදුකර තිබූ අතර, prototypes 90කට වැඩි ප්‍රමාණයක් නිර්මාණය කළ බව historical records සඳහන් කරනවා.
1970දී මෙම නිර්මාණය සඳහා patent application එකක් ඉදිරිපත් කර තිබෙන අතර, 1970 දශකයේදී එය Dunford Flying Machine නමින් ප්‍රසිද්ධ වුණා.
විශේෂත්වය වුණේ මෙය two-line steerable / stunt kite එකක් වීමයි.
සරුංගලය පාලනය කිරීමට නූල් දෙකක් භාවිත කළ නිසා, සාමාන්‍ය සරුංගලයකට වඩා ඉතා නිවැරදිව හැරවීම් සහ විවිධ ගුවන් චලන සිදු කිරීමට හැකියාව තිබුණා.
Cochranes of Oxford සමඟ එක්ව පසුව මෙම සරුංගලය නිෂ්පාදනය සහ බෙදාහැරීම සිදු වූ අතර, ඔවුන්ගේ historical records අනුව Dunford Flying Machine එක ලොව පළමු two-line stunt kite ලෙස සැලකෙනවා.
එදා නිර්මාණය වූ මේ අපූරු සරුංගලය, පසුව ලෝකයේ dual-line / stunt kite සංස්කෘතිය වර්ධනය වීමට වැදගත් පියවරක් බවට පත්වුණා. 🪁

A design that helped change the world of stunt kites
A kite is not simply something attached to a string and flown in the sky.
Throughout history, kites have also been used for experimentation, creativity, technology and the exploration of flight. 🪁✈️
One remarkable design in that history is the **Dunford Flying Machine**.
It was developed by **Don Dunford**, a former Royal Air Force engineering officer who later became a Squadron Leader.
Don Dunford began developing the concept in the 1960s and spent around 15 years refining the design. Historical records state that he produced more than 90 prototypes during the development process.
A patent application for the Dunford Flying Machine was filed in 1970, and the design became known as the *Dunford Flying Machine* during the 1970s.
What made it special was its **two-line steerable / stunt kite** design.
Using two control lines allowed the kite to be steered with remarkable precision, making turns and aerial manoeuvres that were very different from those of a conventional single-line kite.
The design was later manufactured and distributed through *Cochranes of Oxford*, who describe the Dunford Flying Machine as the world's first two-line stunt kite.
This remarkable kite became an important part of the development of *dual-line and stunt kiting* around the world. 🪁
