We are deeply saddened to inform Sri Lanka's fastest female 400m hurdler, South Asian medalist Kaushalya Madushani has passed away this morning (2022-04-24). She has been a great asset to our nation, a great friend to all athletes and a humble human being to say the least. May she rest in peace, and may her family and loved ones find strength during this difficult time. Our prayers are with you ❤️

Track and Field starting off in two days, Nimali Liyanaarachchi will compete first of our two Olympians. She will be competing on 30th Friday at 7.19am (local time). Yupun will start off with heats in 31st Saturday at 4.30pm. Tune in to watch the live telecast on Channel eye. Wishing these two champions all the best, you've already made our country proud !

Nimali Liyanaarachchi, a Sri lankan star in 800m is qualified for Tokyo Olympics through Universality place better know as Wild card.
Universality places allow one male and one female competitor from a country to participate in the Olympics, provided no other player of a specific sport from the same gender qualifies for the Games.
Unfortunately Nilani, our star 3000m steeplechase champ dropped her world rank to 46 & she didn't make the cut for direct qualifications, as the quota was 45 players.
This gave Nimali a golden opportunity to participate in the most prestigious event of all time! Liyanaarachchi, ranked 56th in the world couldn't directly qualify for Tokyo. Universality place was then offered to Nimali, based on her world rank and amazing performance throughout. She's a real trooper, SLTFAW wishes her nothing but the best !

Yupun Priyadarshana Abeykoon, Fastest man in South Asia, first Sri lankan to compete at a Diamond League, first South Asian to run under 10.2 seconds, Sri lankan record holder in 100m are few of the many titles he earned during his track and field career so far. And now he ads one more title under his name, the most prestigious title every athlete dreams of. He is now an Olympian!
He is the first Sri lankan in 25 years to qualify for Olympics in this event after giants such as Sriyantha Disanayaka and Chinthaka De Zoysa in Sri lankan athletic history. With a personal best of 10.15 (and a wind aided 10.09s), he is sharpening his skills for the biggest race of his life. 3 more weeks to go champ, a whole nation is rooting for you !
