G League United became the first team from the United States to win the Intercontinental Cup since the Maryland Terrapins in 1974, defeating Rytas Vilnius from 89-86 in the Final.

The select team made the Final in both 2024 and 2025, losing to Unicaja on both occasions in Singapore, already making history as the first team from the USA to reach the Final in 50 years.

With this result, the United States have now had six championship winning teams, as the Akron Goodyear Wingfoots won three in a row from 1967 to 1969, the NABL All-Stars finished on top in 1972, the Maryland Terrapins in 1974, and now, the NBA G League United in 2026.

Ben Dixon speaks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wish to express my deep disappointment regarding the manner in which I was relieved of my responsibilities as an Assistant Coach of the LPRC Oilers Basketball Team-especially based on made-up stories.

I have devoted a significant part of my life to LPRC Oilers Basketball. As a player, I played wholeheartedly for the team and had the privilege of serving as captain. During that period, I gave my utmost commitment to the Oilers and was fortunate to lead the team to several championships, including three consecutive championships.

After my playing career, I continued to serve the organization as a coach for a few years. I willingly shared my experience, knowledge, leadership, and passion for the game in the interest of the team and its players. I did so because of my genuine love for the Oilers and my desire to see the organization continue to succeed.

It is therefore particularly disheartening that, after such a long history of dedication and service, I was relieved of my coaching responsibilities in what I consider to have been a disrespectful manner.

I fully recognize that sporting management has the right to make decisions concerning the technical and coaching structure of the team. However, I believe that such decisions should be communicated with courtesy, transparency, and respect—particularly to someone who has dedicated many years of service to the organization.

My disappointment is not simply about losing a coaching position. It is about the manner in which the decision was handled and the lack of appreciation for the years of commitment and service I gave to LPRC Oilers Basketball.

I believe I deserved better treatment and a more respectful process. Whatever differences may exist, I remain proud of my contribution to the Oilers and of the championships, players, teammates, and basketball experiences that formed an important part of my life.

I am expressing these sentiments not out of bitterness, but because I believe that organizations should value and respect those who have contributed meaningfully to their history.

I sincerely hope that LPRC Oilers Management will reflect on the manner in which this matter was handled and recognize that, regardless of one's current position within an organization, years of dedication deserve to be acknowledged and treated with dignity and respect.

I wish LPRC OILERS Basketball all the best and may God bless us all.

Respectfully,

Former Captain & Assistant Coach
LPRC Oilers Basketball Team
